- Bill_DianaExplorerLike Yankee Clipper above, we too had the lock mechanism break due to the pot metal parts. Fortunately this happened while at home so extra key was available for driver side door. Since then we have MH keys on all car key rings and in addition we have some keys wrapped in plastic bag hidden under the MH chassis.
- Yankee_ClipperExplorerSick feeling, isn't it?
In my case, the lock mechanism on the main entry failed with both of us outside and key and cell phones inside. Friendly campers loaned me a cell phone for a call. We had the locksmith pick open the driver's door, which we otherwise don't use. Fortunately, America's Funniest Home Videos was not there to film me crawling behind the driver's seat, then getting DW in behind me. It wasn't a pretty sight.
By the way, the internal mechanism was made of gunmetal and sheared in the closed position behind the door latch. Drilled out easy enough, and the replacement was uneventful. Good luck. - J-RoosterExplorerI had it happen to me one time. There is one window on my coach that is shut but not locked. So I was able to borrow a ladder from another RVer and get in. My wife always has another key but she was 2 hours away at that time.
- backhoemikeExplorermy driver door if you push in the center of the door from the outside it will let you get in pull up on the handle as you push on the center of the door if you MH has a driver door?

The dead bolt portion does not fail,
I had one fail on my previous MH. The tailpiece that turns the bolt broke in half.
DICK - gsf35099ExplorerWe had a problem with the door locks & fortunately were home. I was able to get a ladder and open a side rear window and climb in. In the end, turned out we were using the wrong keys in the locks. Little to much to drink that day.. LOL:S
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIAssuming you locked keys inside motor home two suggestions.
First, I took a common mechnic's "Seal Pic" the one I used was L shaped, and managed to depress the striker bolt when it broke and locked me out in such a way that no key would help.
Second: Have your locksmith make you spare door keys, and sell you a Realator's bo (Key Safe) mount the key safe somewhere you can not lock (propane bay?) and do not forget the combination (i did) - msmith1199Explorer II

Drill a very small hole in the frame of the window {any window that slides}right behind the lock that prevents the window from opening. Then push a rod {drill bit or other} and unlock the sliding window. Wiggle the rod to push the catch up. Then slide the window and crawl in. When finished, put some black {assuming the frame is black} RTV in the hole to seal it up. If it happens again, you already have the hole that for all intensive purposes, no one will ever know is there.

- kalynzooExplorerWe were lucky, while at the beach with kids and grandkids the door closed and locked, perhaps because the grandkid(s) flipped the switch before closing the door. The lucky part was the bathroom window was open, and the 7 year old was small enough to be lifted and put through the window. He saved the group and was given applause and cheers when he opened the door. Fun memories.
We now hide a set of keys.
