- LobstahExplorerGary,
Really sorry you're having such a tough time. My mh is back in my driveway now, and repairing my fogged windows are at the top of my list. Materials are available on Amazon, and from what I've read and had shared with me by members here, it just doesn't seem to be that difficult of a task.
My windows only have screws into the frames on the inside, not sure if you're is different than that. Take the screws out, pull the interior frame off, and the window should pop out from the outside pretty easily. Might require 2 or 3 folks due to size or weight, but nothing that's not manageable.
My plan is to pull one window, take it into my garage and lay it on a table for disassembly/reseal/reassembly, then reinstall.
I would think that if you didn't want to seal them yourself, once you remove the window you could take it to a glass shop and have them cut the seal, clean the glass, replace the seal, and send you on your way, and for a whole lot less than $500/window.
That's just crazy talk.
Jim - ParrotguyExplorerFogged windows:
The first guy who said he would replace the glass, from Chula Vista, did not show up for (2) appointments and then would not return my calls. The second and only other person who said they could do this in the San Diego area was Heckman Glass. They came, measured, took a $500 deposit, and said they would have the windows repaired in LA, then they would re-install them. $375 - $500 per window depending on size and whether it had a valance. I called yesterday, they decided to not due this work anymore. They had customers with fit problems. They said they would mail me my deposit.
As a last resort I made an appointment for monday at our Fleetwood dealer, Holland RV, now at the old Beaudry RV site in San Marcos. They say they will remove the whole window and frame, ship it to LA to be repaired, and re-install - $500 per window - but there might be a 6 month backlog.
I'm pretty disgusted. I don't think I can do the install myself. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Gary - LobstahExplorerThey may have just used them on long slides. Our 36D has that 22' slide on the drivers side. Once retracted, another set of motors kicks in and moves two arms out at the top corners of the slide, one by the drivers seat, they other back in the bedroom. Takes about 30 seconds for them to come all the way out and lock in place.
Jim - PhelangroovyExplorerHi Jim, No there are no "ears" that pop out or LEDs. I just drive the slide until it stops, this is how I was shown by the tech when we bought the rig.
Eddie - LobstahExplorerPhelan,
Just curious...does your slide have "ears" at the top of the inside walls that come out after the slide has been retracted fully?...along with 2 LEDs that come on on the control panel when the slide is fully retracted and "locked"?
Jim
p.s. As for manual retract, there is a "tool" that goes on the end of the motor shaft and gets pinned, and allows you to use a 1//2" ratchet to retract the slide manually. I've never done it, but I had the adapters made by a friend, as mine were missing. - Paul_TurpinExplorerLets us know if the motors can be fixed.
Paul - PhelangroovyExplorerThe issue of slide locks has me intrigued, did a little searching and there seem to be different views on using additional lock bars with the slides. Do any members with PAs use slide lock bars?
Eddie - PhelangroovyExplorerHi Paul, thanks for the response, I bought the PA in Lazydays, Florida, took it for a shake out trip to LA and San Francisco then shipped it from Baltimore, 12K miles and 10 Glorious weeks later!! As you can imagine the warranty does not extend to Ireland.
It looks like I might have to buy the new motor. I might out of interest open up the old motor to see if I can figure how the break might work (a set of schematics would be very helpful). The one thing holding me back from dismantling the old is the fact that if I cannot get it back together I will have to try to retract the slideout manually and I do not know how difficult that will be.

I got to ask, how did you get a P/A in Ireland?
I had the same problem under warranty (years ago) and I was told they do not work on them and ordered me a new motor. If the motor still works you can do what I had to do until I got the new motor. I made two bars from water pipe that can be screwed out to fit tight between the inside wall and slide out. I would lay the pipe on top of the slide out on heavy rags so they would not damage the slide out also so it would not come loose, roll off the top of the slide out and hit someone as you are driving down the road. If you are going to do this for a long time, they sell the slide out bars. I just had the water pipe laying around and it was only two week wait for a new motor.
Good luck - PhelangroovyExplorerHi Guys it is great to see that this thread is still going....just like the Pace arrows! although not so much now with petrol(gas) at €1.60/litre $4.60/US gallon here in Ireland.
Have any of the members had a problem with their slideout moving while travelling. My living room slide-out will not lock in place and can move up to 3-4 inches when I am driving, I have to stop every now and then and pull it back in. It has been like this since I bought the rig back in 2006, I have tried releasing and re-engaging the brake on the motor but it does no good, I do not think the brake is engaging. Do I have to buy a complete new motor or can I open up and adjust the brake, does anyone know how the brake works?
Any help/advice will be gratefully accepted as I have the rig in Ireland and it is probably the only one so I will have to do the work myself.
Regards
Eddie
