LP gas refrigerator when moving?

I plan to run my refrigerator while I'm in motion so things are cool when I get into camp (mine is either gas or 110, no option for 12V.

I assume that I should turn off the refer when I'm fueling up?

I read somewhere that in some states it's illegal to run with lp appliances in use. True? Which states?

    The same here.

I am quite impressed how efficient and effective the fridge operates on propane with 12V supporting the electronics. It uses so little propane yet does a great job in maintaining the cold temp inside.

I put in a wireless switch to turn mine off. Works fine, and I have the same problem. :h

Many (if not most) tunnels and sometimes bridges require that you shut off your propane tanks. That might be what you've read.

An LPG refill station will require that the LP tank be shut off and the coach vacated.
Remember that when the LPG tank is turned off, but the fridge is not off, the logic board will make several attempts to light the burner. That means the thing is sitting there sparking when you really don't want it doing that.
So when you need it OFF, be sure the switch on the fridge is OFF, not LPG or AUTO, whether the Tank is Off or Not.
There's been a lot of debate about using fridge on LPG on the road. From what I read, the majority do so.
  • Place fridge in 'auto'.......when connected to AC power source it will operate on electric.
Then when you disconnect AC power source it will swap to 'gas' operation.

    Hook up and GO!

And when stationary.................LEVEL the rig for proper cooling & to prevent damage to fridge cooling unit from off-level operation.
  • Turn it off when in the vacinity of explosive vapors. Other than that I know of no other restrictions on LP Absorbtion Refrigerators. Pretty much a Department of Transportation 50 state Regulated thing.
  • I haven't heard of it being illegal to run propane appliances while going down the road in any of the states. Yes they should be turned off at the gas pump, in some tunnels and on some ferries.
