We are looking to get a 42' M/H single axle to full time in.I was told that, that size M/H would get somewhere between7-11 M.P.G.We just started looking at a tag axle.Can we expect better or worse M.P.G.

Not a hard rule but tags usually have bigger engines and more weight. Consider what you may tow as well. An under powered coach with a heavy tow will get worse mpg than one with a larger engine.

Depending on how lead footed you are, expect between 7-8 mpg. A 45 ft will get from 6-7, and a 40 will average 8-9. These are typical mpgs, and your mileage may vary, but not by much. Additionally where you travel, such as mountainous or flat, and wind vs no wind will have huge effects on your mpg.

We get about 7-8 mpg depending on how I drive. We avoid Interstates so much of our driving is stop and go through many small towns. When we first started out we drove major highways where you can lock in the cruise control for long distances. Then I averaged around 9-10 mpg. We are in our sixth year full timing so I only worry about refueling when my tank is 1/2 full/empty. Sure, I check for fuel savings at the pump, but I no longer worry about mpg. I have to ask the question: How much do you think you REALLY save if you get 10 mpg vs say 8..:h...less than the cost of a burger at MickeyD's....just sayin.....Dennis

Doesn't a lot of this depend on more than the coach, and exactly what coach? I mean weight, engine etc. The newer engines are far more efficient than some of the older ones. And MPG on any MH is pretty subjective to terrain, wind, load, toad, driving habits, etc etc. I would say 7-11 depending on a TON of factors (pardon the pun). You will notice no manufacturer will claim any MPG. There is a reason, - well lots of reasons.

Over the 7500 mile trip from Oak Harbor Wa. to upstate NY, and back, we averaged 10.7MPG. that's interstate free way driving. Set the cruise at 60-65, and let the cruise control drive it. Short trips, we just grin and bare it. We do run a Banks programmer, and intake system.

Figure 6.5 MPG. If you get a surprise in YOUR ACTUAL mileage it will only be a small one - hopefully pleasant.

With my 28' 1985 pace arrow, I used to get around 6-7 mpg, but after some modifications such as shorter exhaust, removing air pump and other emissions junk, professionally tuned Q-jet carb (they used a wide band o2 sensor, done at hot rod shop), K&N air filter, etc. I get around 11mpg if I stay at 55mph (i don't have cruise control), at 65 I get around 7-8mpg. And this is with the fresh water tank filled, generator running for A/C or electric heaters, and pulling my 72 VW (but weather I'm pulling it or not doesn't seem to noticeably affect the mileage any). I'm hoping to get my hands on an overdrive transmission one day, as I'm still using the factory turbo 400 3speed trans. Or might even covert to a manual transmission. My goal is to hit 14-15mpg some day, maybe a little difficult, but it won't hurt to try ;)

I would figure in the mileage from your AL trips into your coach calculations! After all, it was part of your fuel purchase....

Fuel mileage reporting seems to be one of those areas where fact & fiction are common, I usually get a large chuckle from some of the whoppers I am told.
Who cares, fuel mileage is not what determines how wonderful the trip has been.

You mean like they all used to look like back in the early 90's before the 'bus style' flat-as-a-board front end became the standard for Class A? We bought a 92 Monaco Signature mostly for the price and quality but I really think its great that its wedge shape and not a flat nose. And we still have a flat screen up front.

Although I do notice that a few manufacturers are starting to move back toward a more aerodynamic front end again. Given the height and width of a widebody, and the price of fuel, I'm kinda surprised it took this long.

I keep mileage records an note a lot of what else I do tot he coach in the same spreadsheet. I do it as much as an exercise as for any other reason. My reason for owning a MH certainly wasn't MPG. Our daughter was about 10 and we figured if we didn't do it then, we'd probably not do it til after she was all grown up. For the cost of the rig we could have taken some pretty high end trips, but I am pretty sure that the Ritz as accommodating as they are wouldn't take kindly to starting a fire and making smores outside our room!

We have had our 34 ft Journey, 350 hp CAT for less than a yeer. After a 3,300 mile trip last winter towing our Jeep GC I calculated 9.8 mpg. I was pretty happy. This summer we did around 4,000 miles and it seems like we had lots of wind and I think we are around 7.5 mpg from the computer. I kept records and just havent done the hand calculation, but I know it probably around that.

To us did doesn't really matter. We pay what we need to. If you could see the smiles on the DW and myself while we are on the road.......cheap at twice the cost in my opinion. We are having a blast....drive slow, drive short, sightsee a lot, relax and enjoy the world around us.
