Dennis from 10 to 8 is 20% more for a budget. I could probably live with that.
From 10 to 5 is 50% more budget and I can live with that if we give up food.

our coach gets mpg nearly as good as our toad...and id sure rather ride in the coach 'cross country than in a jeep wrangler !

We have a 41 ft no tag and tow a HHR at 36200 lbs. We average 7.4 over 9,000 miles. Travel at 63mph. That is our sweet spot.

When I was first buying my TV and asked about mileage, the salesperson gave the most accurate response... "If you have to ask you can't afford it."

Agree with most here, plan 8 MPG if you get more great buy an extra piece of pie at dinner, if less skip the pie.

We see a VERY consistent 9.9mpg (interstate, cruise set at 72mph, generator running), houston to virginia & back. Pulling the Toad seems to have little if any impact (maybe .1 or .2 mpg)

Worst I've ever seen (heavy footed thru mountainous interstate) is 8.6.
BEST We've ever seen is 13.8 (atlanta to destin mixed interstate & secondary roads, w/ generator running, pulling toad)....our average speed for that leg was probably 60-65

in my private storage lot (at least 3 dozen coaches) - it seems most of the pusher owners I've spoken with are lucky to get 8 (if they keep the cruise set at 60/65) - when i say i run 72 they say they would be down in the mid 6's to 7mpg if they ran that fast.

look at it this way - your getting better than most pick-up truck drivers pulling 5er's or TT....and you can use your coach going down the road (they cant)

We just started looking at a tag axle.

For what it's worth, we have averaged about 7.8 mpg with our 42 ft. tag-axle coach at 40,039 lbs with almost 70,000 miles on the odometer. A tag axle does weigh more but it also offers more stability and a larger cargo carrying capacity.

Since you will be full timing, you will be carrying more than a part-time RV family. Your whole life will be in that coach so go as big as you can afford and with the most slide-outs. Also, a tag will give you an extra set of tires of you need to rotate to the front.

Once, we received a bad alignment (about 5 yrs. ago) and I didn't notice it until about 2,000 miles later. The inside of both front tires were wearing faster than the rest of the tire. So, I got an excellent alignment at TAFA in Nashville and rotated the tag tires to the front to have a fresh set with very little wear.

Last year, I bought a whole new set of new tires and went through the Michelin FMCA program for extra savings.

ON EDIT: I JUST CHECKED MY ALADDIN COMPUTER AND THE AVERAGE IS 7.8 OVER 68,700 MILES (originally I listed 7.2).

Fill er up and go! We did fill up for $2.99 a gallon in Lubbock last Friday.

Over all using the fuel bought and the milage driven 33,000 miles we are about 8+-. We brag on the freeway milage and suffer the short trips. and of course we do not account for the gen-set usage.

Yes, tag axle will make you use more fuel! More weight added to the coach and when driving more friction (energy used) turning those extra wheels and tires.
