Macerator Question

Going camping this week end with friends. They have a new to them MH, their first. It has a macerator, I don't have any experience with one, except helping them run it to make sure the tanks are clean, and I'm wondering about having hook ups.

My thought is that they would use their holding tanks like dry camping and then at some point as they fill up dump the black and then the gray through the macerator and start the process again. Is this the best way use it?

While we're at it, if you have one would you do it again?

Thanks, Terry

Mine does not have a bypass although I've thought about it. Grey will fill faster etc.
  • Thanks for the responses,

I guess it was more of a confirmation than a question. It was the only way that made sense to me, but, I didn't want to advise them without verifying here.

I didn't notice anything that looked like a by pass. I will take another look. I can see how that would be a nice feature to not have to pump the gray water.

People seem to like them and the ability to pump your tanks to a distant point seems like a nice feature.

    Thanks again, Terry
  • and if the pump has a bypass feature (which I recommend) you can drain the grey without running the pump.

Works just like a conventional set up with the exception of a motor to pump rather than gravity. Let your tanks fill, dump. Same as a standard system.

You don't leave your valves open any other time do you? That's not a good idea.

Maybe I am missing the question.
