- G7ARYMExplorerLast Sept Wal-Mart had an Emerson refurbished for $79. Used it on a 25 day trip and it more than kept up with our cooler needs. I figure it paid for itself in 1 trip and I get free ice for as long as it lasts. Only downside is the ice basket needs to be emptied every 90 minutes or it shuts off as it is full. I love camping out.
- PenManExplorerThanks to the OP. I ordered one today. I recently received an email from WalMart advertising the same ice maker for $129. Glad I waited to order.
- nelsonExplorerHave had one like this for about 10 years and paid much more. Would not leave home without it.
- Clay_LExplorerWe put the ice in a bin we keep in the freezer section of our refrigerator. That gets it a lot colder so it lasts longer in a drink.
The first batch does make in about 8 to 10 minutes but with mine the cubes are smaller and not enough to be usable. As it makes ice and the water in the tank cools down from melt water the cubes reach the normal size. In ambient temps of about 75 degrees or so it will make a full batch in about 2 hours so it is actually pretty fast.
Ours is about 8 years old and is our second one. The first didn't last through the one year warranty so they gave my money back and I bought another one. It lasted just over a year and I repaired it with the pc board from the first one. It has been working great since.
The newer ones seem to be doing better. They all appear to be made in the same plant in China with only cosmetic differences as requested by the companies they private label for.
Because of that I would just go for best price. - msmith1199Explorer II

Or keep making Margaritas. - DUNEBUGGYDOUGExplorerYou do have to keep the ice dumped or it will melt and do the process over.It is not a freezer
- klmExplorerGot mine at Target a few yrs back - same price, unit looks like WM magic chef - mine is an Emerson. Love it, glad I have it - I do not have an ice maker in my freezer/frig. The 5 lb bags are more ice than I need and take up more valuable freezer space than I have. It's great to make just the right amount of ice
- msmith1199Explorer IISo I don't have to wait too long for my frozen margaritas?
- RVUSAExplorerwow thats fast.
