Magnum ms 2812 inverter

Just replaced inverter because i kept getting a fault light when i tried to use it. Now i keep getting a batt. Low red light. Batteries are less than 1 year old. Any ideas??
  • Magnum customer support is very good. I'd just give them a call instead of chasing the answers you'll get here. Most of these inverter issues boil down to a bad ground.
  • Have someone turn an inverter-powered load, while you check voltage at the house battery and then again at the lugs on the inverter itself.

THAT is how you tell what the problem is!

    Could be:
    Bad battery(ies)
Could be that the batteries are not fully charged.
Could be bad connection at battery bank or inverter
Could be inadequate gauge wire between battery bank and inverter.
Could be an issue with the Inverter.
  • Doesn't matter the age of the battery, only its charge. What is online and trying to use power?

X2 Wolfe nailed all the potential problems.

Assuming the batteries are fully charged, my money is on bad connections or inadequate wire.
  • I repaced the old one with the exact model new one. I plan to call tech support later today.
  • jplante4 is correct about Magnum support. They diagnosed my problem over the phone and I sent the inverter to them for repair at a fraction of the cost for new.
  • VERIFY that the 12 volt Positive cable is HOT at the Inverter. That means checking the 250/300 amp in line fuse is GOOD. Do NOT have 120 power to the RV when doing this. Also verify that the Inverter Battery cables are indeed connected to the Coach Batteries securely. Doug

Obviously he wants OUR opinion. He could also READ the large owners manual that comes with the Inverter that has a detailed troubleshooting section. Doug
  • Did you check the voltage on each battery? Does yours take water and are they topped off? Do you have the controller set to properly charge the batteries? Do you have the cutoff switch on? Are the battery connections tight and clean?
  • Follow up from Ron......checked my remote pannel settings and discovered that the battery cut out level was set at 22 Volts, yikes!!! So of course it cut out as soon as I tried to use the inverter as it was set to do!! Changed it to cut out at 11 volts and it works perfect.
