Mazda miata

Getting serious about getting something to tow behind the Jayco I bought in feb. Originally thought about a Honda crv to replace my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, but maybe a Miata and keep the Pathfinder. Anybody out there toad a miata and with what results?
  • We'll be setting up one this spring, according to the owner's manual none are towable. Check Miata racing forums ... they tow them. You can buy a baseplate from Roadmaster. Do a "Miata" search here and look for Healeyman.. he's towed many.
  • actually go to the dingy towing forum for this. Has been asked several times with various answers. Some say yes, others no. Check owners manual 1st thing to do under towing. More than likely an auto will be no, manual trans ??

    Thanks, Terry. Here I am...

    Rsteelie,

    I towed a 2000 5-speed over 35,000 miles, through all of the lower 48, and have now towed a 2010 and a 2012 over 20,000 miles.

Additionally, I have helped almost 100 other Miata owners to get their cars RV towable.

PM me if you want more information.

    Tim

  • Not trying to talk you out of a Miata at all here, but we towed a Toyota MR2 Spyder with a manual transmission. Just providing an alternative if the Miata drops off your list of considerations. Mind you a Miata has a trunk, the MR2 has a lockable stow-away compartment behind the seats. The trunk is much more practical, but the mid-engine MR2 was dreamy driving the curves. Still we loved the Spyder until we found ourselves driving through deep dry river beds with it to get to our trail heads. Since then, we tow what you see in my signature.
