Mercedes Benz Warranty Work

In August we were coming back from Alaska in our 2010 25' Class C MB RV. We had a differential problem and stopped at a MB dealer in Edmonton, AB. We were told by the service manager that the US MB drive train warranty would not be honored in Canada and we would have to pay for the repairs. We eventually took the RV to a MB dealer in Montana and the vehicle will be repaired under warranty. The MT service manager told us the same thing, US MB warranties would not be honored in Canada. If you plan to drive your MB RV to Canada, and it is still under warranty, you might want to check with your local MB dealer to see if this is correct.
  • Not unusual, for imports especially, to have different warranty programs for different countries. Warranties and pre-paid service are marketing tools, cost built into the sale price, dealers in each country have to be paid from the distributor/importer having the fund reserve for that particular program. Paying across borders requires fund transfers that raise tax issues a corporation will usually try to avoid.

Check warranty terms for any vehicle, before taking it from U.S. to Canada or Mexico. Very few warranties are global, and for many smaller high value products that do have an "international" warranty, the U.S. warranty is still separate.
  • I have a 2007 no problems at all love the MB but just for kicks,I,d call mb and ask about this warrenty business. why no canada warrenty?
  • I wonder, I wonder....if anyone has had a warranty issue on either side of the border with their Rv, car, truck. Not something I have ever even considered...everything I drive is waaaay beyond a warranty. What a bad situation to be facing.

Great that you were able to get back on 'your' side of the border.
