If I had to... I'd put the worn tire on the inside, since its slightly smaller size would offset any slight crown in the road.
I've come to believe, though, that the Right (Passenger) Side, INNER Dual has to be the BEST tire on the whole coach. Why?
1. We sometimes drop the Outer Dual on the Passenger Side, off the edge of the pavement. When we do, the weight it's supposed to share with the Inner Dual, gets dumped onto that one tire, the Inner. It suddenly runs overloaded till we get its partner back onto level pavement.
2. Inners don't get the air flow that Outers do, and at least on Fords, the Inner Right is right next to the hot tail pipe.
All this especially on the big heavy Class C's. The ones that call for the rear axle capacity of the E450. Most of the tires sold in the LT225/75R16 size are in Load Range E. An E350 can run with Load Range D and up to 65 PSI, but E450 needs Load Range E at 80 PSI to have the tire capacities add up to the Axle Capacity (GAWR-R). And they don't add up to very much more than the axle rating, hence my opinion about the Right Rear Inner. E350 with Load Range E tires, I wouldn't be as concerned about it. Load Range D, you're back in the same Be Careful Game.
