Monaco...The Good years and the bad...

On the way to our vacation property, one of our neighbors has a Monaco Diplomat. It looks nice form the outside. My wife asks me about it and I say I really don't know. She say is it on that monocouque chassis? I'm like I think the top ones are but not sure...

Which leads me to my next questions...

I heard Monaco was a great brand and then they had a few years of some issues, and now are they good again? If so, which years should I stay away from? I see many for sale on RVtrader and many are priced very reasonably...

Are there any tips to getting a nice pre-loved Coach from Monaco?

I like a TAg, and stay in the 37 -40' range...

Oh, and do i have to worry about not having any CCC with these guys?

Despite Monaco being on it's third owner, it's customer support has been excellent all of the time although I've rarely needed it. I'm partial to the big Monaco/Beaver/HR/Safari with 10 airbags because of their excellent handling and 9000+ lbs of CCC. The new Monaco's do not use the 8 outboard airbags and I did not drive any last summer as I plan on using my 04 Dynasty for another 10-15 years. Also, all of the new ones were rear bath and a half... not what I'd want. If I have to replace my 04 I'll look for a 04-07 EXE with a Detroit 60 engine. Guess who else is semi monocouque with 10 airbags and a Detroit engine... Prevost, Newell, and Foretravel.
The Monaco Dynasty Bishop is a 38' MH with a tag axle... not sure why and not sure why you'd want a MH that short. Out West we boondock often in USFS CGs in our 42' by showing up Monday, not Friday.
The Navistar years are 2010-2013 and have gotten a bad rap because their engines did not meet the EPA's ever increasing mandates. The few I've personally seen looked to be well built and there are lots of their engines out there in trucks so getting it worked on would be possible.
While the newer Diplomats have tags, they did not before around 2009. Before 09 you want to look at Dynasty, EXE, and SIG (top of the line). Today a Dynasty is closer to EXE in options and HP (500+) as the EXE has been dropped.
  • I have a 1996 Monaco Dynasty and did not sadly did not do the due diligence prior to purchase which has cost me alot of money. Due to the age of the motor home the support I get from Monaco to find parts is really really bad. A major RV sales and service company in Ontario has stopped being a major supplier of Monaco due to the bad customer service at Monaco. My suggestion to you is call Monaco and try their customer service and also parts dept. Choosing a part crucial such as a power steering pump and see what happens.
  • We have been happy with our 2007 Monaco Knight but it doesn't have a tag either. Some of the nicest coaches we have seen were the Monaco Windsors Dynasty, Diplomat, and Signatures from before 2007 or so. check out this site for more information - http://monacocoach.com/owners/brochures.asp
