Forum Discussion
- JimM68ExplorerAlways a good discussion...
I do it either way, and rarely for any particular reason.
Sometimes slides first, sometimes level first, especially on off level sites.
The coach and the slides don't seem to care, all 4 always work smooth. - wildmanbakerExplorerRon, Bruce, myself, and others were not telling the OP how to do the slides, but just making the new owner of the Monaco aware of what could possibly happen.
- lanerdExplorer IIBruce, I was just pointing out that the OP wasn't asking for your procedures...
Sorry, if I took too many liberties with snipping your post. I apologize.

Slides are installed in the Factory with the Motorhome leveled. So it is always a good Idea to level before moving slides.Bruce Brown wrote:
ours says level first then slides so I'll keep doing it that way.
But see... that's just it. The OP didn't ask how "you" do it, he asked how "he" should do it. Fleetwood, Newmar, Tiffin and just about every (if not all) require level first. Monaco is, and has been, a horse of a different color and those of us who either do not have a Monaco or never have had one, should not be advising this (or other new Monaco owner) person of what your procedure is. It only confuses the issue.

But Ron...you left out this part of my post :S ;
Every Monaco owner I've ever discussed this with says slides out then level. A good friend of ours owned (2) of them, both the same.
After many campfire debates over the merits of either way he went so far as to call the factory and ask why. Their reasoning was the box is the most square when everything is either on the leaf springs (gasser) or full air bags on the diesel, so thats the best time to deploy the slides. They were thinking there could be some box twisting and slide binding when leveled.
I guess you could make a case for either way - **SNIPPED OUT**
Probably if I owned a Monaco I'd do it the way they wanted.
See...if you read the whole post it's not even a little bit confusing. :W - lanerdExplorer IIYeah, I noticed that too...but obviously, he has a new motor home but now he's stuck with that rv.net handle. Didn't think ahead, did he?
Ron
ps.. Bill, want to say thank you for all your help you've provided me in the past here on rv.net and also over on other forums. Your technology expertise is very much appreciated. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIA guy whose user name is FLEETWOOD07 want to know how to work his "MONICO".
What? - lanerdExplorer II

With my Monaco coach I base my decision on what the site conditions dictate. It is nice to only park on level sites but if you boonedock, or even in some RV parks, if the site is way out of level, I do things differently. Rather than push a slide uphill, I will level the coach first, and then extend the slide.
Very true. We have been in some RV Resorts that have been less level the when boondocking. One that comes to mine is Zephyr Cove Resort. Had to scrounge some more blocks to get level. No matter how solid your frame, if you are un-level, it will twist and flex. It may not be much, but it will, and if you park it that way, you could be putting a twist in the frame that may not straighten out. Do what you want, but use common sense. - rgatijnet1Explorer IIIWith my Monaco coach I base my decision on what the site conditions dictate. Monaco feels otherwise.
