Thoughts on Ford vs Workhorse chassis.

X2, Wisdom here. Both I see as equals with different benefits. Really it's a coin toss to me as well, except for the fact Ford is still mfg them.
  • Some were made to drive around in comfort and some were made to move the house from place to place. If it is close to overloaded before you put anything in it, it may not handle the best. They both are made dependable and will move you from place to place.

Depends on what year of chassis, if 2006 and newer I would go with the Ford since they improved the HP/Torque and the new 5 speed transmission, older than 2006 than Workhorse might be a better deal.

At that same time, 2006, Workhorse had the SIX speed Allison transmission so the newer WH chassis still has it's advantages right up to 2012.

  • Each have good points and not so good.

    Personally I prefer -
Coke, Mary Ann, Almond Joy, right Twix,,,,,
  • That is an extremely open question. Both have their adherents and their detractors. Unless things have changed, a WH is not going to be new and you MAY have issues getting service locally. They did have an issue with brakes at certain times. They also had an Allison Trans which is a plus. The older Ford engines had some issues. The newer units with the upgraded engines are OK.

If you are talking handling, I can only speak to my two Ford base units. They were OK, especially after I did the 'cheap fix'. Between the two I ran up over 50K in 9 years. I would concentrate more on floor plan and the condition of the House. Of course you want to do a mechanical check, but if the house is coming apart at the seams does the chassis matter?
