Motor Home cover

The problem with those canopies is you have to make sure you get one that can stand up to the weather where ever you are. Wind being the biggest problem. So you can't always just use the canvas canopies, unless it's one of the really expensive ones. The big metal ones are nice, but then you are talking several thousand dollars too. I would get one, but my motorhome is stored next to my house and the City won't let me put a structure that close to the fence line.

Has anyone tried one of the canopys? Kinda of an instant garage?
We are expecting our new MH in November and would really like to protect the finish from the start.

I've used a cover on mine for about 5 years. It's NOT a piece of cake to put it on, but it's not that hard either. I lean an extension ladder against the side of the motorhome. I then tie a tow strap around the middle of the rolled up cover and climb the ladder and get on roof with tow strap in hand(cover is still on the ground). I then pull the cover up to the roof(about 35 to 40 lbs), roll it out and let the sides fall down around the sides of the RV. I climb down the ladder and pull the cover over the mirrors, strap it down, and it's done. It takes about 20 minutes to do it. I don't put it on if I am going to use the motorhome in a week or so, but anything over 10 days, I put it on. It's worth it to keep the sun off of it.

When we bought our Georgetown, we inherited a cover. It's such a PITA to install that we haven't used it in the three seasons since we bought it.

Admittedly, we live in a fairly benign climate region - relatively warm but soggy winters, not much snow and ice, and the rainstorms keep the roof fairly clean. We've just had a 2-day storm with wind gusts in the neighborhood of 75 mph and about 3" of rain. It's a heck of a good shower for the roof.

Frankly, I don't see the advantage of a cover in winds that strong and rain that will wash the roof pretty well. We haven't used the cover since we bought the MH and I don't see a need for it.

If anyone would like to have it, let me know. BTW it's sized for a 2002 Georgetown 325.

If you are covering it for the season then it's not too much of a pain. You are putting it on and taking it off once a year. I bought a cover for my Class A and it's now in the shed where it's been for two years. It's not that it doesn't work, but it's a huge pain in the rear (and dangerous) to put that thing on and take it off. So much so that when I had the cover on it and we talked about going camping for the weekend, I wouldn't do it because it was too hard to take the cover off and put it back on. Kind of defeats the purpose if it keeps you from using the thing.

I use a cover because I ain't got no covered storage either. My RV has always been covered from what the PO told me and all the stickers look new. BTW, mine is a 1992. So after comparing it to others that were much newer but in worse shape, I spent the money to buy a new cover (my old one ripped in a strong wind storm). Now I work a little extra to get the straps tight under the RV where before I didn't...live and learn. It's not easy getting up on the roof with the cover, but it's better than the damage the sun will do to it....but that's just one man's opinion.

You might want to check ebay for RV covers.

I always cover, each winter.

The cover is soft, causes no damage or wear to my finish, keeps the sun off and keeps ice from freezing on the roof. The cover top is a typar type material and snow slides off all winter preventing weight on the roof.

My cover is a one size fits all 35 ft to 38 ft. It might weigh 30 lbs if that.

I covered for the first time last year and will do it again. You tie a rope around a hand full of cover on the front, then I go up top and start pulling the cover up as my son helps unroll it on the ground.. A quick job. Yes they have zippers to get into the MH. I store in on a shelf high in my garage..
I would love to have my own MH garage, but that aint going to happen

I don't have a local camping world, but none of the local dealers cover their "for sale" units during the winter. And I don't cover mine either.
