Motor home vs 5th wheel

Can anyone that moved from a 5th wheel to a motor home tell me if hook up or tear down is any easier with a motor home or about the same?
  • Hooking/unhooking the toad will go a lot quicker if you avoid one of those "toad brakes in a box" systems. Get a built in system that you only set up once or, better yet, a Ready Brake combined tow bar and brake setup.
  • Dw said don't remember seeing all this scenery betore in our 5ver. Nope. Huge windows much higher. So much more you can see. Bad weather? Just kick on generator. We're here. No need to go outside. Need a snack? I'll go back and make you lunch on the road. Bathroom? No problem. No need to go outside. Or lets stop some where so I can get in that hot TT or 5ver to make lunch. I.e. wish we had a MH.
  • Just made the switch last month. Climbing up the wheel well on the dually finally got to me. It is easier to "hookup" if climbing around he truck becomes a issue. The dually was really a big vehicle to be driving after the tow and it just sat in the drive otherwise.

Now the toad if using the tow bars takes about the same as hooking up the fiver. it's still new to us but getting the brake buddy hooked up takes the longest. Disconnect of the toad is faster.

Leveling is just a matter of staying inside and pushing some buttons. If its raining out turn on the generator and wait it out. You might not have to disconnect the toad until ready.

We are happy with the new setup. Don't miss the fiver at all, and we do have more room inside than our 39' Cameo had. Long term camping is going to be a pleasure and a more comfortable car to drive in.
  • Do you really want to spend your day in a pickup truck?
  • Traditionally if you like to motor more than home a motorhome and two car is better. If you like to home more than motor a 5th wheel works better.

For me if it a matter of preference. I like driving our motorhome a lot. I have no interest in driving a big two truck.

Hookup or setup? Hookup is the same. Setup? Press the buttons in the coach and turn on TV. If it is raining wait until it stops to get out and hook up.
