Motorcycles and Class A's

I have a Hydralift 4288 motorcycle rack that is mounted on my 2005 Allegro Bus. I've had it for 2 years. I was going to try to sell it on eBay, but it has to be taken off by a professional and packed and shipped and the cost is just going to be prohibitive.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to sell something like this when you travel full time?

I'm going to be around Maine for a few weeks, then heading back to the midwest, then to the southeast - all between August 25th and October 20th! Hard to sell something when you are a moving target! I'm willing to meet someone within a reasonable distance - but not willing to go way out of the way and waste the gas $$ because I'm selling it for a lot less than it cost.

I sold the bike - now I just want to get this 600 pounds weighing me down off the back as well.

Thanks for any suggestions! Please share if you know anyone interested!
  • The bike was 600 lbs. and the guy I've been talking to about taking the thing off so I don't have to haul it around anymore said with everything on it it was probably around 600 too. Doesn't matter - I just don't want it on the rig.

I've got some folks interested in different parts of the country that I'm going to be going to over the next few months so I'm sure someone will take it. I'm not going to go down in the price though. I sold the motorcycle for a song because we'd had it up for sale for a long time and had no offers. As soon as I let it go, I got a bidding war between two guys who wanted it. So I'm standing firm to the price on this thing. It's a lot more on eBay. Not a ton of used ones around. We looked forever before we found this one and were able to get to it before someone else did!!

Thanks for the shipping info. Hope I don't have to use it though!

First off, pretty sure your Hydralift doesn't way 600 lbs. I mounted one on my coach and it was very close to 375 lbs. We loved it. We carried our '08 Honda GL 1800 Goldwing on it. And, we towed various toads with it. As for selling yours, there are buyers out there. When I installed mine, I knew that someday, it was possible that we'd not want it anymore so, it was bolted on, not welded. I could have welded it but, bolts were just as secure.
When we sold ours, we lived in San Diego. I removed it, got an old 8' long pallet, loaded it all on there, strapped it down with plumbers tape, about 6 bands of it from once side to the other. They were so tight, they were like guitar strings.
We shipped it to Pennsylvania. I have no idea what the shipping was, the purchaser paid for it. I sold the unit for $2,500. It was in perfect condition. They are by far, the best lift/carrier on the market.

  • Would you consider removing it and leaving it on consignment somewhere? For example, an RV dealer that accepts RV's for sale on consignment?

  • Boy, my coach probably wouldn't support that but I'd love to have that option.

I bet if you used craigslist and Facebook marketplace in the area's you will be (only advertise while you are there/heading there) you may be able to find a buyer. I sold a tandem tow that I owned for less than a month and would have bought this right away.
