Motorhome Model Year Question

The model year can be either way.

My previous motor home was a 1998 motor home and was titled a 1998, but was on a 1999 chassis.

My current motor home is titled 2004, but is a 2005 motor home on a 2004 chassis.

1. Motorhome YEAR model is NEVER based on the chassis. It is based on the MSO (Manufacturers Statement of Origin). That will NOT be on the VIN and Weight sticker on the Motorhome unless a particular State requires it. I am not aware of any State that requires it.
2. Once Titled, the Title and the registration copy will have the TRUE year of the motorhome based on that MSO.

3. The extra 77(or less or more) hours is normal on a lot of new motorhomes. The Delivery drivers run them (in violation of their employee contract and transportation company rules), while in transit when they stop to sleep.
4. They used to disconnect the hourmeters on older (more than 20 years ago) to hide the practice, Now, unless they disconnect the remote harness at the Genset (which they do not know how to do) the hours accumulate
5. There are also times the Genset is run at the dealership during demonstrations but that would be less than a few hours a month.
6. When we see more than 20 hours on a Genset, we get the OEM factory to authorize a Oil and Oil Filter change. If the factory does not do that, my dealership pays for it(if over 40 hours).
7. ALL Class A and Class C motorhomes are driven from the factory to the Dealerships. That can range from 100 miles to 2000 miles depending on how far the Dealer is from the OEM. Doug

A colleague at NASA in Virginia had worked for Open Road RV manufacturing. They were in northern Florida. He once delivered a "new" rig to San Diego.

The chassis had miles from Detroit to Florida then the completed rig added in the miles from Florida to San Diego. IIRC, he said it had nearly 5000 miles on it when the retail customer took delivery!

Our coach had 3,100 miles on it at delivery. The chassis was driven from Canada to North Chicago for conversion then to Stuart, FL, for delivery. :)

We are approaching one year of ownership with just over 18,000 miles and 123 hrs. on the Generator.

I have a 20 year old diesel motorhome and the generator hour meter on mine has only about 90 hours on it. I have only put about 10 hours on it in the two years I have owned it. Most of the hours are just to make sure everything works and exercise the gen. Just the way I use it.

I own a Winnebago and I live in Washington State, there is a Washington State Law requirement that a ID tag be on the outside of the RV. My tag is mounted on the side of the coach where you go up the stairs.

In my previous post I made it sound like the gen hours were high. They aren't for the life of the gen but unusually high for a brand new unit. That's really what I was trying to say. I think they are supposed to have the break-in oil changed at 50 hrs.

Based on the number of miles and the hours an the gen set, this must be a used unit. Thus, I would expect a used price to be offered. If it is a 2016, the manufacturing date should be shown someplace on the unit and the dealer should know where that is found. I am suspicious of a dealer that says it is a new unit and it has 1500 miles on it and 77 miles on the gen set. Something may not be right in Denmark.
