Mounting 32" LCD TV

I removed a few years back the 27" tube TV that came with our RV and boarded over the opening and mounted a 32" TV to it. Needless to say a handful of trips leaving it up there on the overhead caused the plastic on the TV to break, crack and etc.. So basically I have a patched up TV that I put up and pull down for trips and it works fine. Does anyone have any nice set ups to share so maybe I can do a fixed mount. I do have Directv and a Sony sound bar that I run on a DVD player but my setup is not clean, functional but would be nice to make it neater. My rear 19" LCD has been flawless, I just wonder if that overhead is too much flexing?

Welcome to RV.net. And you're from Santa Cruz! CA? The beautiful Santa Cruz with the Amusement Park and the Crows Nest Restaurant? Love that place!

I mounted our first flat panel, a 26", to the forward inboard corner of the driver side cabinets. Used a folding wall mount from Amazon, about $20, Video Secu brand. Didn't trust screws so I through bolted it. Attached a small bungee cord to the cabover window frame and it holds the TV from swinging around underway. Just replaced 26" with 32" and found it still clears the cabinet to get into viewing position.

How were you mounting your TV that it's cracking? There's a VESA pattern of four threaded inserts on the back, for metric mounting screws. Did you use that or something else?
  • When I replaced our 27" with a 32" led, I used the base that came with the TV for it to sit on. I had to cut the front edge off, then drilled tow holes in the back part for mounting screws. A couple of straps across the back to steady it, and it has ridden there for about 5 years with no problem. Back then, tvs only had a single mount in the center, many now have legs on each side, which might create other problems. However, if you can get the weight on the installed legs, it will be a lot better.
  • I use a tilting swivel mount and it rests on a cushioned shelf held by a bungee cord while traveling.
