My central/ac in our class a pusher

I HAVE NOTICED LATELY THAT WHEN OUR CENTRAL A/C COMES ON IN OUR CLASS A PUSHER THAT THERE IS LIKE A SLIGHTLY MUSTY SMELL AND THEN IT GOES AWAY. WE CHANGE THE FILTER FREQUENTLY AND BOB CLEANS THE OUTSIDE VENTS AND VACUMS THEM OUT. WE DO HAVE THE MOISTURE ELIMINATORS AROUND THE RV INSIDE. THIS IS OUR 4TH YEAR OF FULLTIMING AND NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. ANY INFORMATION AS TO WHAT DO WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
THANKS
DEB
  • Thank you for the information. Will show it to my husband and see what he thinks.

  • Whatever you do, do NOT let any repair shop talk you into 'sanitizing' the system. I got sucked into it and my ac has not worked since in my SUV. I've heard others have the same problem.

Regarding Lysol. Be real careful using that if you have any allergies or breathing problems once you have sprayed that stuff into the vents it doesn't go away and the residue actually can 'cause' breathing problems and is a serious health risk. IMHO do not use Lysol.

I had one car that did that musty smell when turned on. I stuck a couple of dryer sheets tucked into the blades on the defroster vents. I then turned the ac dial to defrost. That eliminated that first burst of musty smell and then turn the dial back to vents.
  • They make a A coil clean that will work very well. You must be able to wash the coil after. Simple Green works also but again you mush wash off the coil after use. Make it part of your yearly inspection to clean the coil.

No need for all the caps, Deb, as some view it as yelling....lol

Anyway, try spraying Lysol in the intakes, while it's running and even if it's not lasting, you'll know that you're killing some bacteria in the process. Do it at home, also, to keep things from growing and building up in there.
Other than that, I don't have anything to offer.
