Need help with decision on my coach

This is a tough problem, Desi45,

Our coach is a 1995 model and we love it -- have owned it for 9 years and we originally thought it would be the only one we'd ever have, despite it being slideless. We've got 25 years on you, and it may still be our coach when we hang it up; however, it is now requiring more and more maintenance and we are beginning to wonder whether it will last now that we're about to hit the road.

We've used it at most several weeks each year, so it has mostly sat on a parking pad outside our house -- in the weather. That, I'm thinking is what you may consider at a determining factor in your decision. If your coach sits outside most of the time, it may be best to sell it now and buy a 'new' one later (there will be plenty of them available(!), what with the way new ones are now selling).

On the other hand, if your coach is under cover, I'd personally feel more confident about keeping it. Sun, rain, leaves and other biological detritus, really take a toll on these vehicles!

My 2 cents,

Fifteen years from now your MH won't be worth anything. Plus, you said you'd probably get something new after retirement. Therefore, we would sell it now while you can get some money from it and invest it for that new MH.

We have stayed at both (?) campgrounds in Music Valley. If you are traveling with your children that should be fine as they have plenty of amenities.

I would sell it, but you are going to be shocked at the depreciation of these coaches. That is why I never could figure why anybody would pay cash for a coach if they are not going to use it.

The longer you keep it, the more value it loses. I made that mistake with a day cruiser boat. I never have any time to use it and now it is not worth even selling it, even though it still is like new. Same thing with a coach if you are not going to use it. JMHO!

Well think of it this way.What will your existing motor home be worth in 10 to 15 years/ what will your money from sale of it now and invested be worth in 10 to 15 years.I know you can't very accurately determine inflation or investment rates for that long.Also how do you estimate maintenance and insurance costs for 10 or 15 years of ownership if you keep it.Do what your comfortable with and what feels right,make sure to look at it from all angles.It is a very hard question to answer,I suspect 90% of opinions will be biased to keep it on this site,and thats fine too.

I would keep it too. If our previous coach had been on a diesel chassis we would still have it, with a new interior! It was an 8 year old Gasser with 110,000 miles, all ours.
The coach you have is a fine chassis and shell. With continued light use for the next 5-7 years it ought to be fine. If you want significant upgrades then you could choose between a new coach or major interior upgrades to the present one. Most of the newest bells and whistles can be added while undergoing an upgrade. Even some exterior things like better cameras and lighting options are addable.
The worst thing you would face would be Resort discrimination against older coaches. That can be overcome with careful maintenance of the exterior.

At seven years you are already past the worst of the depreciation. At 8 years no one wanted to give me anything for my Southwind.

For the last few years, our rigs has seen not much use due to work commitments.
We've still done our 2 nascar weekends, and a long weekend somewhere close every once in a while.
This past February we escaped for 12 days, it was great.

It won't hurt your DP to sit. Keep the batteries topped off. Drain and or winterize the plumbing.
When the urge strikes, she will fire up and go.
