New Blinds For Motorhome, Whats Best

I've always been happy with the day night shades. They work well, don't break often, and are easy to fix when they do break.

I do want to get MCD's for the windshield tho, to replace the cheesy curtains and motorized visors that don't actually meet in the middle!

If you have a DP mini-blinds squeaking and rattling may be aggravating....on the other hand if you have a gasser it may not be noticeable. My new coach has MCD shades and I couldn't be happier.

I replace some of our Day/Night pleated shades last fall. Attended a RV show near our home. A vendor there was selling roller shades similar MCD. We are happy and use them everyday because they move up and down without using 2 hands. Here is a link to the vendor. Shade-Man.com

In July 2011 we replaced our Tiffin Day/Night Shades with United Shade's Rollshades bought from Window Expressions (both are Dicor Companies) for $999.53 and $151.36 for oak boards from Nickell Custom Moulding Outlet, both companies are in Elkhart IN. I do not believe Window Expressions sells retail any more, but there was a local outlet for the product last summer. I built new valances and installed the Rollshades on 8 of 10 windows in our Phaeton. The last two windows are small in the kitchen and bathroom that didn't have the dreaded day/night shades. Our valances are equipped with a light screening shade toward the glass and a blackout shade behind it facing the room. Our total cost, less my labor, was less than a 1/3 the rough quote from MCD 4 years ago, this coming March. They work great and we haven't had any problems with the product, much better than re-stringing 4 or 5 day/night shades a year.

I upgraded to MCD Duo last year and the DW is happy, so I am happy as well. A bit expensive, but worth the extra. Great customer support and documentation. Did the install myself and it was straight forward. I installed a total of 7 and all 7 were different sizes. The mcd order form makes it easy and organized.

My day/nite shades (4 of them)....constantly needed re-stringing...a genuine PITA, Removed them, took them to "Blinds to Go" and for $135 (at the time) had them replaced by mini-blinds.
Of course, the plastic mounting brackets were slightly different in size, so I had to replace them...used the same mounting holes...and they fit perfectly.

We replaced ours with custom made aluminum mini-blinds ordered from Lowe's. So far they work very well for us.

I have wood blinds like you would have in a stick and brick. We are happy with them and should last forever.

The cellular are a fine choice. I like the "cordless" ones, don't like the cords (drawstrings) hanging down. You can also get the little snap-in holders for the bottom of the blind, to stop movement when driving with the blind down.

I replaced all my original shades with MCDs -- and wish I hadn't. Here's why . . .

• I didn't replace all my original shades at once, only two shades at first, A year or two later when I decided to upgrade the rest of my old shades, I discovered that the shade material I wanted was no longer available. So I couldn't match the two MCDs I perviously installed.

• They're really expensive.
