New Michelin Tire Recommendations

I have Michelins: 275 70 R22.5 XZA2 Energy. I want to replace them with Michelins. Anyone have a recommendation for a Michelin product this size ? Should I just stay with this model if still produced ? Or is there a better Michelin ? Thanks.

I put on new ZXA3's which replaced my A2's. They ride very nice.

  • Jim, Steve is correct in his statement that Michelin only markets one tire specifically for RV's the XRV. I would go with the XZE since you own a DP you need at least a H rated sidewall. If your not a member it's worth it to join FMCA ($50.00) to buy Michelin Tires from the FMCA Michelin Fleet Tire Program. You have to register your CC that your going to purchase the tires with Michelin. Michelin will get a hold of you by e-mail and tell you what tire dealer to go to. Then Michelin will reimburse your savings back onto the CC. Good Luck, Semper Fi do or Die! John
  • Michelin only markets one tire line as being RV specific and that is the XRV. It's not built in your size. The XZA2 Energy is a great tire in motorhome service it's built primarily as a long haul highway all position tire with low rolling resistance.

The XZE is also fine for motorhome service and is primarily a truck regional service tire also all position. It's not built better just with different target characteristics. It has more sidewall protection to better deal with curb hits and high scrubbing forces like many sharp turns.

There are a number of Michelin's that are used frequently on motorhomes but they are all truck tires.

    Here is a Michelin guide:

  • XZA2 Energy tires are load range J which means a stiffer sidewall. (more plys) which could result in a slightly more harsh ride.
You must decide to keep the same or go for a bit softer ride with a load range H tire which you will find on most MH's.

You aren't going to wear out or overload either type like a trucker might - so buy the best riding tire.

And IMO just because someone else has a specific tire on his coach doesn't mean yours will ride the same if you change to his type tire.
    Good luck
  • Pardon the dumb question but what is the difference between "Regional" and "RV" among Michelin tires ? Does "regional" just mean truck tire ?
  • Get rid of the XZAs and go to XZEs they are a better built tire, better sidewall and more a truck tire, the XZAs are a mh tire.
