New Radiator

Recently I had an issue with the radiator in my 2000 american eagle. The radiator needs to be replaced. I am wonder if anyone could give me their opinon on the differance between a brass radiator and a aluminum one. I figure both are good but which has the edge on the other? Also which radiator fluid would you recomend? I hear there is some out there that does not need to be tested.

  • I have a new Copper and Steel radiator. It was installed at Quinn Cat in Calif. cost about $5400 parts and labor with a coolant flush and coolant change to Cat EC-1 Rated Coolant. Check here to see what they have.

  • My father owned a radiator shop for years and I worked for him in the summers and on weekends. Absolutely, I would recommend a copper core, brass or steel tank radiator over one with the aluminum core with the crimped-on tanks. Country Coach, for example, had lots of issues with aluminum radiators and many have been replaced with copper/steel radiators.

Find a reputable radiator shop in your area that does commercial truck/heavy equipment radiator repairs/replacement and see what they say.

On the coolant, when you do the radiator replacement, have them refill with one of the OAT long life/extended life coolants. They will last 6 years and only require periodic checking (test strips) and may need a periodic boost with an additive based on testing.
