New RV water sanitizing question

I have a 2014 Coachmen Freelander 22QB. I am attempting to sanitize the water tank and lines for the first time however the watertank fill spout has a fixture on it with a screen that you hook a hose up to.
I have a short length of hose with a fitting to screw into that but when i try to pour the water/bleach solution into the hose it will not go into the tank without some pressure behind it.
Have any of you ran into this issue and how did you resolve it?

  • Even if you don't drink from it why would you want a growing science experiment in your tank? Using Sodium bicarbonate can be an effective way of controlling fungus growth and it does remove much of the taste and smell from plastic tanks including the chlorine. I once bought a bottle of Valterra drinking water fresh from the local RV place. I then did an MSDS search and found that it was sodium bicarbonate repackaged with a very nice profit margin.
  • We don't bother to sanitize the tank. We just drink bottled water and refill the empty bottles from campground faucets. I suspect that water from the tank after being heated in the summertime wouldn't taste good anyway. Water from the tank is fine for washing up.
  • aTTACH THE HOSE TO THE WATER TANK FILL, THEN, BEFORE ATTACHING OTHER END TO THE HOSEBIB / FAUCET, POUR BLEACH INTO THAT END OF THE HOSE AND ATTACH TO HOSE BIB.
  • Just load the hose with bleach. Or ditch the screen. All of the water going into our trailer goes through one two or three filters so nothing else is necessary. To help de taste the system use baking soda.
