new to diesel

I am contemplating upgrading to a new DP and have one question. Well, actually many Q's, but for now just one. Is it appropriate to use the truck islands at Pilot/ Love's, etc? I don't want to be get into someplace where I shouldn't be.
Thanks

  • I use truck lanes all of the time, most truckers I have met have been pleasant and helpful. Just remember that usually the 2 pumps that you coach goes between can be used to fuel your coach from either side. But usually the one on the right controls the function on the left pump. When we travel I usually send my wife in to pay and get the pump activated. Some truckers helped me to figure this out and now I have helped some confused RV people.:)
  • Yes. I use truck lanes whenever possible. One major advantage is easy access with high canopies. I agree with others, just pull ahead when finished.

Just pull up after filling before going in to pay so the next guy can start filling. Since Pilot bought FlyJ their price is 10-15 cents higher than what you can find several blocks away so I rarely use them any more. Also several blocks away you can still use your credit card for the cash price.
  • I use the truck lanes all the time with our 3500HD / 5er Combo, easy in and out, fast pumps.
I have only had to wait in line once or twice, usually there is a open lane.
Be aware the pump handles / nozzles are usually more messy in the truck lanes.
  • The short answer is yes. I try to use the RV pumps at Flying J if they have maneuvering room, otherwise I use the truck lanes. Get in line, when it's your turn fill your tank then pull forward so the truck behind you can fill up while you go pay for your fuel.
