New Windshield Seals

My coach is 10 years old and my last winter trip to Arizona caused my windshield seals to shrink causing a small water leak! I called a windshield repair service called Novus to come out and give me a estimate on a new windshield seal replacement! Novus, sent a mobile tech out to my house (No cost to me) to look at the windshield in my coach! The tech noticed that I have one small rock ding on each side of my split windshield that have previously been repaired. The tech told me due to my windshield being 10 years old, and those previous cracks even though they were repaired, he believes that both my windshields will crack more or possibly break if he tries to take them out? He showed me where the water leak was coming from and advised me to seal the windshield myself? The tech also said if the windshields experience bad cracks or breaks it will cost me around $4,000.00 including materials and labor. I know nothing about windshields, to those of you who have experienced this problem, does this sound possibly right to you? I also need to know which type sealant works good on windshields. My existing seals are black in color so I'll need black or clear sealant!
  • The best sealant is from Aircraft Spruce and Specialty. Use fuel tank sealant which will last 25 years and put masking tape around both edges before applying. It will never wash off your hands or clothing so use rubber gloves. To apply, squeeze it out and use a tool called a spoon to smooth, not your finger.
