Newbie Help...Did I just mess up my a/c...roof

I was backing up my rv into the garage where for some reason the door began to come down. I didn't notice this until I heard a thud (which was obviously me denting the door). I run up to the top....my ac looks good. So Im looking under and I can tell my ac was moved slightly.(You could tell from the dust and dirt) Long story short, It feels snug, but I can shimmey it about 1/2 inch side to side. Should it normally be this loose, Or did my accident loosen it up a bit. I nervous, last I need is a leaking roof. Any help is appreciated......the sooner the better.
Thanks
  • You need to take it off and have it resealed.

Even if you take it outside and use a hose up top, the water could go into the roof and then leak down into the walls where you won't see it until after the damage is done.

  • Remove ceiling grill....under grill will be 4 hold down bolts (they keep A/C Unit attached)

Loosen them and then 'square up' A/C Unit then tighten hold down bolts
Tighten them 'finger tight' and then just SNUG (only 40 INCH pounds of torque)
So SNUG is all that is required.....and NO MORE

A/C Unit should NOT be movable

x2, that's exactly what I've done to reset it.

If I found the A/C could move, or that I could move it, after a mishap like this I'd want a new gasket in there.
Be careful of your roof material so you don't loosen it or make a hole. The A/C is heavy to get to and from the ground but not so heavy you can't work 2x4's under it to R&R the Gasket.
That said, you must disconnect any wiring between you and sliding the new Gasket between the A/C and Roof.
Are you OK with a snugging of the bolts? Even doing nothing? Possibly, Probably? YES, but the downside of Dirty Harry's "Do I Feel Lucky?" question is a condensate and rainwater leak into your RV...
  • x2 ,you,ve moved the gasket, if mine I,d replace the gasket ,not a hard job just a heavy item to work with. might be worth having a dealer do it.
  • The Hole up there is usually 14 inches squared. Similar to fan hole in bath. The seal up there is foam compressed type. (Unless they are using something else lately). If you hit ac, you only moved 1/2 inch or so. But, you need to figure out if you damage the square hole enough to leak into the ceiling or run down the walls. Now, this I do not know. But, can you seal unit extra by the space between ac and roof? Then, tighen the 4 bolts from inside RV. Otherwise, time to lift the unit till you can replace gasket and inspect damages...
