Newbie winterization question '06 Knight 38PDQ

Hi all.

We picked up our new coach last Saturday and of course we are excited and learning new things daily.

I am winterizing tomorrow (Kentucky) and the manual seems to be missing a bit of info.

The water panel has a "Winterize Inlet" which has clearly been used in the past (it's pink) but I can't find instructions anywhere to use it.

I assume it's like a siphon for the antifreeze, but we know what assumptions make a fella :-)

Thanks for any insight!

  • Noted. I may try that next year since I would prefer to never have any chemicals in the system. Thanks!
  • I'll just mention that many, many people don't bother with the Pink Stuff except to pour it down the drains to fill the traps and put a little in the bottoms of the grey and black tanks.

The reason is that it takes so much water to get the pink taste and color out of the fresh water in the spring. And with most of the US in drought conditions, it's just prudent to use the 'Air' method for your fresh water lines.

Air method uses an inexpensive tire pump to blow water out of the fresh water lines starting at the inside shower head. I just open the lowest faucet and blow it out there. Also remove the pump and drain it.
  • Yup, that's exactly where I am with it. I finally found reference to it elsewhere on a travel trailer lol

    Thanks!
  • After reading 'winterizing' section I see what you mean. Thought it was pretty straight forward but no where does it reference the winterizing connection shown on panel.

Hook a hose up to it.......place other end in bucket of water

Then turn on pump and play with different positions with a faucet open and see if pump sucks water out of bucket. (Fresh water tank would have to be empty so that pump isn't sucking water from it)

    Good luck.
  • Thanks. Yes, I have read all of that and even search the .PDF and cannot find reference to the inlet.
  • Depends on which 'system' you have.

HERE is a pdf version of owners manual
