Wanted to drop the MH off at an LA dealer for repair and was told by Newmar that the dealer will only repair units that they sold.
And that, right there, should cause the dealer to lose it's distributorship.
X2. This infuriates me. I've been the victim of this practice before and it's very inconvenient. We purchase RVs to travel. It's very natural that we will require service away from our home dealer. I agree that Newmar and the other manufacturers should make this a requirement of the distribution agreement.
As a side note, Newmar is stronger on the east coast than on the west coast. This makes it challenging to get service on the west side of the country. Definitely a factor to consider. I think Tiffin is the same way the further away you get from Alabama but I have no direct knowledge of this.
Tiffin will pay anybody to do the work. They do NOT have to be a Tiffin Dealer. So, if you have a small RV repair shop you like to go to, you can still use them for Tiffin warranty work. And Tiffin sends warranty checks every Friday. So, I have found shops very happy to do work on my Tiffin. They get paid quickly and a fair rate for the repair.
