Newmar and Tiffin

I am seeking advice from people who owned or do own a Newmar Dutchstar or Tiffin Diesel Pusher RV. I am looking at both and would like some pros and cons on each. Mainly build quality and service record etc from the manufacturer.

Any help is appreciated.

  • Newmar builds a better coach as far as the house part. Chassis I do not see any difference.

So the big question should be towards the quality of how the house portion is constructed. Like I said, the chassis will out last the owner if taken care off.
  • Newmar in my opinion.

Had a neighbor that had two Tiffin Zephyr models and the workmanship was just awful. I don't believe you can go up the ladder much higher than that model. His 2010 was back to the factory a couple time for some bad leaks and the 2014 was not much better. He has since traded for an Entegra. I know both manufactures will have there faults but I still would pick Newmar over Tiffin. JMHO
  • Bought our DSDP new in 05 and still running like new. Had problem with Diamond Shield which I eventually removed myself. Also, clear coat around curved roof edges is fading but so far no major repairs on anything. Just restrung one pleated blind last week. When we decide to upgrade it will be another DSDP but as long as this one performs like new why upgrade?
  • So far only have a hand full of minor warranty issues for Tiffin to fix come spring.
  • Hello,
You picked a couple solid mfg's to choose from I doubt you will hear from any unhappy owners of either. BTW we love ours. I have heard some 2016 DSDP models are a bit heavy on the steer axle (from factory) leaving you with not a great deal of carry capacity.
  • Both brands have a reputation of building quality motorhomes. Both have advantages. Pick the model, FLOORPLAN & price that works best for you.

If used ask for service records.
  • X 2 -- Newmar, very pleased with the company support even with a 15 year old coach.
  • We bought our Dutch Star new and used it full-timing for 8 years - traveling constantly. We would highly recommend Newmar.

You can add custom additions, changes or deletions as long as there are no structural changes. We had a couple minor warranty issues when we first got it but they were taken care of satisfactorily and quickly and not by our selling dealer. We had no problem using another dealer as we traveled. We didn't have to return to the manufacturer. Newmar doesn't mass produce like some manufacturers and they take care while building. We took the tour and the workers didn't rush. They kept us updated constantly as to progress of the build and asked clarification before doing special items so nothing was done incorrectly. Cabinetry was well-made with a perfect fit everywhere.

Before ordering we tried to talk to every owner we would come across and we didn't receive any negative comments. That sold us. Good luck with your choice.
