Newmar class A

Is anyone familiar with Newmar class A diesel pusher motor homes? I am finding a number of them on craigslist and they are mostly older. The newest one I found is 2002. Just wondered if anyone knows anything about them. One is a Dutch Star and one is a Mountain Aire??

  • This is a warning: not about Newman RVs for which I have great respect and admiration, but for adds on Craig's List for used Newmar RVs. I have been looking for a used RV and found several adds on craig's list for older (1999-2004) Newmar RVs, both Mountain Aires and Dutch Stars. The adds looked appealing. I pursued 2, both turned out to be scams. Had I not caught this in time it could well have cost me plenty. photos and The adds and the scam artists running them are very good, with photos and answers for most questions. The give away is usually the unit can not be seen in person and payment is through e-Bay to assure you of security for you money. This scam is being run so frequently that there is actually a blog dedicated to it. In addition to RVs it can also involve toads or trucks and SUVs.

If you are looking for an RV on Craig's list and you find one of interest, first ask in you can see it in person. If you are told it is being held on a military base where it can not be seen, Be Ware!
  • We were happy with our Newmar. We would buy another one.

Can't say the same for the other manufacturer in my sig.
  • We have not had any cabinet problems with a 2016 Dutchstar.

So far we love our Dutchstar. So far 19000 miles 1 year and 3 months.

  • Tom/Barb, unfortunately I disagree on 1 point.
If the cabinets are the best in the business, then everyone else's must be garbage. I know Newmar brags about their cabinets bit I've had many issues. Cabinets twisting, doors cracking. Things stapled with a few screws but no glue. Crown moulding installed upside down!. Terrible as far as I'm concerned. Thankfully, I can repair them myself. 40 yrs. as a cabinetmaker.

    We own a Mountain aire, (2000) 4080.

and like any piece of equipment they require maintenance.
The coach is very well made, the cabinetry is the best in the business.
We've never had a leak, or a roof problem, although we were proactive and resealed all the seams with Eternabond tapes.
We changed the windshield this year because of stars ( can't blame the manufacturer for that)

We are pretty rough on our equipment, and this old coach just takes the abuse and keeps on going.
  • Quality units if properly looked after. Like anything that age, there is lots of variables.
