Newmar Mountain Air Question

My BIL was showing me around his new rig, a 2004 Mountain Air with a workhorse chassis. On the electrical control panel above the door there are two switches grows together in a box. One is labeled "Step" and is the step power. The other is labeled "LP" and for the life of us we could not figure out what it is for or what it does. I dug through the manuals and couldn't find a diagram of the electrical panel, or any discussion on what it is.

Can somebody with a Newmarket tell us what it is?

Thanks,

Jeff
  • Thank you all for the responses! That answers the question. What seemed odd was that it was grouped in a box with the step switch.

I guess with this setup, you need to check it periodically to make sure it is in the on position. On my Journey, you have to flip the chassis battery connect switch off to remove power from the detector and radio.

    Thanks again,

    Jeff
  • Correct on LP switch.
The step switch is not step power but a selector switch to have the steps stay extended or retract when the door is closed. The steps will retract in either position with the door closed and ignition switch on.

Not on a Newmar. The switch is there to turn the POWER OFF to the LP detector. On Newmar's, they used to wire the LP detector direct to the battery and even if the battery disconnect was OFF, the LP detector would drain the coach batteries in a few weeks. So, Newmar installed this switch to allow the LP detector to be turned OFF. Still wired DIRECT, but this switch allows the LP detector to be turned OFF from inside. Doug
  • It is, as mentioned earlier, a switch to turn the LP gas detector on and off. Locate the detector in your coach...normally close to the floor, and when on blinking ocasionaly ( green light). this is the LP detector. It's purpose it to detect LP leaks or LP gas left on unignighted on the stove.
  • The switch turns off the LP (Liquified Propane) valve at the tank.
  • Call Newmar Technical support for the correct answer, they are still in business. :)
