nissan nv rooftop air

Just wondering if anyone has installed a rooftop air conditioner in a Nissan NV van. Ive never seen any set up with a rooftop air, so im wondering if its even possible, though I cant imagine why it wouldn't be.

  • 96 Coachmen Saratoga on Dodge chassis. Fiberglass roof insulated ceiling.Went smaller to be able to use on a 20 amp breaker. Works well after dark to sleep but unacceptable during full sun n heat.

What kind of vehicle did you have it on?
  • Don't get a 9500. It will not cool enough. I made that mistake. I should have gone 12000.
  • Yeah smaller units are available. Coleman makes a mach 8 in a 9200 btu capacity. I see rooftop units on Sprinters and Transits all the time, and most of those guys recommend a 13,500 unit, but those are also 14 and 16 foot cargo areas compared to my 10 foot area. Ive just never seen one on a Nissan, not even online, so I wasent sure if there was some reason why not.
  • I'd imagine you can- here in AZ we see ll kinds of added ac units for campers, dog wash vans etc.

some have a home window type unit mounted in a back window, and a honda or other small genny on a cargo rack ( cheap, easy to do at home and no clearance issues)

mounting in the roof would require a little thought about preserving the structure and may need some bracing added between the roof supports ( thinking roll-over protection)
    do-able

  • Some Roadtreks are coming with 11000 BTU units, so smaller are available.
  • I think the biggest problem would be that a standard 13,500 BTU AC unit is going to be way too much in cooling capacity. It will also take up a sizable amount of your rooftop real estate.

I don't know if there are lower BTU/smaller rooftop units available or not.
