No fuel to Generator.

2000 Itasca Suncruiser 35u. Bought the coach 2 weeks ago and am going through a few things that need attention. On of which is the Genset. This unit has the Onan Emerald 5000 generator. It's got spark but has a no fuel situation. I figured it was a gummed carb but much to my surprise it's a fuel supply issue. Is there a valve of some sort that can be turned on and off to supply the generator with fuel? I pulled the fuel supply line which I'm assuming comes directly from the coach's fuel tank and there wasn't anything there. I was pulling the line from the inlet side of the generators fuel pump. I tried tracing the line back to the tank but it runs up into the coaches center section and I couldn't do so. I currently have a little over half tank of fuel in the fuel tank.

Any help with this is appreciated!
  • Loosen fuel cap on fuel tank. Remove fuel line from generator fuel pump blow back into tank with compressed air to see if line is clear of debris. Also if you do not hear it bubbling in the tank your fuel line may be higher than the actual fuel level. After you blow line drain some fuel in a can from hose.Reconnect to fuel pump. Now disconnect fuel line from carb. Place end in a can to catch fuel. Turn generator over to prime fuel pump and hose that connects to carb. Once primed reconnect to carb and see if it will start. I let mine sit a while and I couldn't get it to prime. I think it was vapor locked between fuel pump and carb until i did what I just mentioned. I also installed a clear fuel filter in fuel line just before fuel pump so I could crawl under rv and see if fuel is at least to fuel pump from now on. Also heavily treat you fuel with sea foam gas treatment to help get rid of gums and deposits. I know this will bring on the comments but I have had good results with this in all small air-cooled engines.I also treat Mo Ho fuel if I am going to let it sit for long periods of time.
  • *Update. Found out yesterday that the fuel pump is not working. I have ~10.5v to the pump while cranking. Pulled the pump and hooked it direct to a 12v source and it doesn't do anything. Have a new one on order. Hopefully we will be up and running by the end of the week.
