With a good earthquake down there you could be out of power for a week and I don't suspect you will be able to purchase fuel during that time.
I lived about 35 miles from the center of the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 and we were out of power five days and could not purchase fuel because the gas stations had no power. Only emergency vehicles could get gas.
So if you top that tank off every couple months you may not have a problem.
The tank is 78 gallons. We plan to refuel every six months -- probably about 25 gallons at that time. I think we will use Sta-Bil for diesel then. Seems to have no downside risk and will reduce water problems.
