Noisy Lippert levelers again...

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. After going on two years of complaining, Lippert finally gave up telling me to put assorted additives in my reservoir to stop my jacks from making 'popping' noises. The additives would seem to work for a little while and the noise would return. I became an even greater email nuisance to them after one of our camping friends got a new Class A and it was obvious their jacks were identical to the ones under our Winnebago but, parked side by side, ours popped and theirs did not. Lippert relented and sent four new jacks and authorization to have our dealer install them. With the dealer backed up for many weeks with winterizations (that take priority out here), I just went ahead and swapped them myself (a quick, easy job). Day and night difference. Obviously there is something wrong with the Lippert jacks in the 2014-2016 time frame. Poor choice of seal material or bad polish inside the cylinders? Who knows. I no longer care as the noise has stopped. If you have a history of complaints with them, insist on new jacks. Ones that make noise ARE faulty! It's NOT the fluid. If you have a second hand unit and the noise is driving you nuts, bite the bullet and just buy a new set. That WILL stop the noise and lower your blood pressure.
  • I should add that even the leveling operation is much better. With the old jacks, as the controller 'analyzed' the level, each upward adjustment was a jerk as if the system had to develop full pressure before the jack would move at all and down adjustments were a sudden drop as though almost all pressure had to be relieved before it could move down. The old jacks also caused a sudden dropping feeling when retracting the system, again, as though pressure had to be relieved before the jacks would move up. Now all jack movement is smooth in each direction, like riding an elevator.
  • Gary, Thanks for the info. My jacks drop suddenly. They also make creaking sounds after I'm up and level. Who did you contact at Lippert? Or did you go through a dealer?
  • LJ, I first complained to Winnebago who referred me to Lippert's document about oil additives. They would only work for a short while and the noise would return. I then started complaining to Lippert (on their website they have a place where you can send messages) who kept telling me the same thing. When my friend bought a new RV that had the same levelers but was silent, I began griping even more. They finally sent me the jacks that I installed myself (quite easy). Problem fixed. The fellow who responded to my messages at Lippert was named "Greg"
