When looking for a used MH that has a 4 door Norcold 1200, should we look for another MH that does not have this particular refrigerator? I know it should have all recalls done, but should a Norcold 1200 be a deal killer?Thanks-- Mick

Certainly would be for us unless the deal included either having the dealer (if buying from dealer) install residential fridge or a price reduction to compensate for having one installed (if buying from individual). We've had Norcolds and two residential and will never go back to an absorption fridge.

We have a 4 door Norcold and like it a lot. Recalls, yes there have been some. But, check out any product, all have some. If you like the MH, it would NOT be a deal killer for me. If you think it is bad, just make a better deal.Residentials are fine, IF you are either hooked up all the time, or have a LARGE solar array for boon docking. If you don't, then the residential frig will use up your batteries fast.

Its pretty silly to not buy a motorhome because it has a Norcold fridge or Dometic for that matter. Install some type of fire suppression for a few hundred bucks and sleep well. Worst case, if you are that afraid of it, once you buy the unit, go out and have a heavy duty absorption cooling unit swapped in. The heavy duty units use much thicker steel, and are much less prone to bursting. If you are that afraid of it, you probably should not buy a motorhome with a transmission. Transmission fires are the number one cause of RV fires. Maybe get rid of the engine while you are at it.

I wouldn't let it influence my decision. Just make sure you are comfortable with the cost of a residential and robust solar system. Say 3000 bucks or so. And no a residential doesn't stop you from dry camping in any way shape or form. Just install an appropiate sized solar array based on your needs. Modern fridges don't use much power.Good luck and happy trails.

Well, having had the Norcold 1200 4 door refrigerator in past motorhomes for the last 14 years, when we purchased our new motorhome in February, one of the requirements was that we WANTED it to have the Norcold refrigerator.If you are concerned about the recalls, just call Norcold and find out how to tell if all of the recalls have been done.
