Norcold 1200 LRIM

Well, I'm headed over to the 'dark side' folks !

Last year my Norcold 1200 cooling unit failed. After discussing it with the Extended Warranty folks, they gave me three options:

Norcold cooling unit
Amish cooling unit
Residential Fridge

I said no to the Norcold replacement, and discussed the residential unit with the DW. She said she liked the four door Norcold unit and since I'm a wuss, I gave in and went and had the Amish unit installed...:W

Fast forward to last week and she let me know she wanted a larger fridge since she loves the outdoor markets and buys lots of fresh produce...:S But, she loves to cook and I love to eat, so I guess that works out well.

Anyway, I'm about to be the proud owner of a Samsung fridge next week. The Norcold, even though it works great will be removed Wednesday, and I'll be stepping into the great abyss of previous Norcold owners...:B

BTW, the Norcold still works great and anyone in the Gulf Shores area that wants her, shoot me a PM. You'll have to arrange to have it picked up though.....Dennis

    Thanks for all the replies. I've found a guy that wants the Norcold, so he'll pick it up. Wish I could have sold it but I'm making someone less fortunate happy, so that works for me.

    I'm having the new fridge put in the living room until I finish the carpentry. Now is the time I wish I still had a stix n brix with all my tools....:), but I'll manage. I'm just glad the RV Resort we're at is understanding. They've let me put my cold items in the clubhouse fridge until I get it installed.....gotta love that...I'll post some pics when it's in. I'm going to try dedicate a page in my blog to the install.....thanks again all....Dennis

    Dennis, I just changed mine out last month. I only had room for the 197 depth wise. I ordered mine from Home Depot. I am very pleased with the side to side fit. I too lost drawer space for height. I only have 4 6 volt batteries but over 9hrs. on the inverter at low settings the refer only dropped my voltage by .5 volts.

    I made the switch two years ago and it has been the best improvement I've ever made. I even sold my old unit on Ebay and made the cost almost nothing. I did not have to upgrade my batteries or inverter.

    Your bride will love it and so will you!

    Either way I lose the drawer...altho I'll probably just remake the drawer a little smaller.....Dennis

    Dennis I've been told there are a lot of things cheaper than a divorce.:B

    I checked two different places and it looks like it's one inch shorter... 68 and a 1200 is 65.:S

    PS, did you check the voltage of a 50 amp RV outlet?

    Unfortunately, everything has a price....the 'new' Samsung is the 217 which will eventually replace the 197. Both are 19.7 cu. ft. fridges. The 217 is less height wise but deeper. The 197 depth is 30.5, the 217 is 33.7..altho the specs show 32 1/8, I measured one at Home Depot @ 33.7....Dennis

    I too just changed out our Norcold for a Samsung. It was relatively easy to do. It was a big load off our minds.

    Based on some of your earlier posts I'm surprised to see the change, but understand how important it is to keep the bride happy. However, I do not see any dark side. As a matter of fact, I just started removing my perfectly good Norcold to replace it with the Samsung unit. Since most DP's already have plenty of battery capacity and an inverter, the cost is relatively inexpensive and the carpentry work is pretty basic. The end result is more fridge, which is always a good thing. Good luck with the project.

    You will be very happy with it. Make sure you insulate the back opening as the water line for the ice maker could freeze otherwise. I velcroed two pieces of foam insulation with finger holes to pull them tight.

    Even though the Samsung doesn't have ice in the door, it has a huge ice container that produces ice quickly. It was great for camping. Everyone came to us for ice. Our new coach has a 22 cubic foot Whirlpool with water and ice in the door, but the ice container is pretty small.
