Oil Change Frequency-V10

I do my Ford F-250 V-10 every 5k

You could invest in an oil analysis kit and send in a sample every 3K miles. When it says you need to change then change. Millage is not a good indicator of when to change the oil! In the 1950's, auto manufacturers/Dealers decided that oil changes at 3K miles would not hurt anything, and would help the dealers to make money. While in warranty follow the recommended change interval, to avoid any problems in case of a major engine failure! After that, you should test the oil to determine when best to change it! In any case I would not go over a year without changing the oil!

My ford tech told me 3K miles due to the weight of a V10 in a motorhome. in a truck, you could go further---so he says. what i might do is have the oil analyzed the next time. maybe that would give me the answer i am looking for.

I had a v10 Excursion and loved it... A rock solid engine.

I've always said the 3k miles was big ol "make money" lie. The engine, oil and filters today are made to withstand a lot more strenuous workloads. I generally say 5k is the standard, but you can go 7.5k miles. Always check the fluid levels every 1k miles or so, the greatest risk is low level and not oil break down.

All if that said.., if you feel better changing it at 3k, then do that.

I change my motorhome's V10 oil about every 10,000 miles.

However, I use an expensive synthetic oil in it that is supposed to be good for 15,000 mile oil change intervals. I also install a high-end oil filter with each 10,000 mile oil change. I hate messing with oil changes on top of everything else you have to take care of with an RV, so the added expense is well worth it for me.

10,000 km for us. Roughly 6000 miles. We have somewhere around 180k on ours. Second set of plugs.

Our 24' 2001 (2000 chassis) V10 just turned over 207,600 miles and always had its oil and filter done by me. Always Motorcraft filters and Motorcraft 5w-20 oil. Depending on the driving, changes are done at 3K, or 5K or 7500 miles. If it doesn't get used a lot during the winter months, 3K because it can accumulate moisture; moderate distance driving trips, 5K; long trips of 6K to 8K miles round-trip, when we get home, with a fresh change before the trip starts no matter the time since the previous change, Those long trips of 70MPH, or more, will require adding some oil during the trip, but never a full qt. total. Bottom line, IMHO, it depends on how and when its driven.

The folks who sell oil want to take your money and the folks who sell vehicles want to take your money. Why believe either one?

Then I guess the OP should change the oil somewhere within those parameters! :S

Did you even read my post? I made no specific recommendation. Just offered my thoughts and what I do with my own equipment.

What exactly is your point?
