Old Class C RV - roof?

My 1988 Jamboree (not Rallye) has an aluminum roof; it's obvious since it is not painted. I've got the original Manufacturer brochure, covering the Jamboree, the Jamboree Rallye, and the Jamboree Rallye 3000. The brochure refers to "one-piece roof construction" on all 3, and has details showing a seamless aluminum roof in natural finish for both the Jamboree and the Jamboree Rallye. The Rallye 3000 is different, however. While the specs still refer to "one piece roof", there is no detail refering to a natural finish aluminum, and the pics seem to suggest a beige painted roof. No hint at the actual material.

While the Jamboree and the Jamboree Rallye both have steel framing for the walls, floor, and ceiling, the Rallye 3000 uses more conventional wood framing. The Jamboree and Rallye also use radius corner windows, while the Rallye 3000 has square corner windows. If your roof is painted and has a bit of texture, I assume that your windows have square corners? That means it is the Rallye 3000, not the Rallye.

Question: The sides of the rig and around the windows are a bit off a mess. Silicone patchy and turned black etc. I plan on cleaning it all out then resealing. Any tips of what to use?

I would guess that they didn't change too much in a couple years and you have the same type. What I did with mine to maintain it was to scrape out all the seams and use Dicor, then gave the entire roof a good coat of roof coating. No leaks for now...

you probably have an aluminum roof. dont be suprised if once up standing on it, you encounter sections where it has loosened from the wood sheeting under neath . A good coat of dicor will protect it for a few years .

What if you tried scratching down to the original material in a small spot to see. Since you are going to re-seal anyway, this would keep you from buying the wrong product.

If you are unsure of the surface, I would recommend you think about something like Bus Kote or another brush on solution. If it is just a spot fix, then think about using Eternabond tape. Prep well and it will stick like crazy.

Honestly I can't tell if it's fiberglass or aluminium by looking. Since the re-sealing is different for both it is driving me nuts!

x2 on those tires. We bought a beautiful used RV several years back. Tires were better than 50% rubber so I didn't give it too much thought. Our first significant trip we had a blow out due to dry rot and aging. Good luck with your roof. Sounds like you have a nice project ahead of you.

As a RV owner, you should become familiar with Eternabond and Dicor self leveling caulk.

Don't hesitate to ask questions on the forum. There is a lot of information available.
At one time none of us knew anything about RV's.

Also, check your tires. RV tires usually age out before they wear out.
