If it stops as soon as you release the start switch it usually is no AC output. The controller must see AC to let the engine keep running. It could be dirty slip rings or a bad controller. Using metal like steel wool or sand paper can get imbeded in the slip rings and that is not a good thing. 3-M sanding pads are safer for cleaning them along with a spray of contact cleaner.

No ac output then i am thinking i need to drop the unit better inspect the generator components it ran before i put a meter on the leads at the relay. the connections looked good they were tight i will check the ac lines from generator to the relay. the problem of it not running was same with breakers on or off.
