I replaced mine from Napa also, I got the specs off the original one, PSI and flow rate I think it was about $30 for a Kolhar 5.5 KW generator. Replaced in a Walmart parking lot while on a trip in Ohio about 7 years ago, maybe 30-45 mins and still works. I don't know why the Onan pump would cost so much more. I would think as long as the specs are the same I would replace it with any generic fuel pump.
I replaced mine with one from NAPA ($85). Took about 10 minutes to install. Unfortunately, I seem to have a problem with too much pressure. Priming doesn't stop like it did on the original pump and the motor won't start. It acts like the carburator is flooding.
Needs more investigation. Incidentally, the new pump looks identical to the original, except for the mounting bracket. - frankdampExplorerI replaced mine with one from NAPA ($85). I bought it on Amazon for $65.
- Passin_ThruExplorerLabor rates at Cummins are around 125/hr. I can do it for 405/hr and parts will be 200.

The MH is at an RV Dealer for some minor repairs about 100 miles from where we live. The closest Cummins shop is only about 5 miles from them, they took it to Cummins for me, they are also who called with the price. I told them the total cost sounded really high and I asked for a breakdown - they didn't have it? They did say they would email me. Currently waiting but will post it when I get it.
Caught with his hand in the cookie jar and swizzel stiks in his back pocket! Once they realize you *know* they are being...ahem...highly unethical...you likely will want to find a more HONEST repair shop. - darsbenExplorer IIMy guess is that the cost is less and the RV dealer is adding a nice profit for performing the task for you.
- cjd10ExplorerMy brother in law just replaced his. He did it himself and paid around $150 for the fuel pump. Not sure where he got it. Onan 5500 gas generator.
- Jack_KayExplorerHaving mine swapped out tomorrow at a local Truck repair shop. They quoted me about $480 to do the job. Same Generator. Ohnan 5500.
- Dale_TravelingExplorer III think at $900 you can take a basic, intermediate and advance small engine repair class with your local school district adult continuing education program.
