Owner feedback on the new Itasca Solei 34t

I have a 2012 Itasca Sunova 30A (a gasser). I am looking to upgrading to the Itasca Solei 34T (a DP). Any of you owners of this MH have any positive or negative feedback? I have never had a DP. How does it handle on the road? Dose the 340hp engine have the power needed? Do you have the washer/dryer unit?

Thank you,

Ron
  • We just picked up our Solei 34T and took it for a short camping trip to Sea Side Oregon coast.
Drives very nice towing our Audi with Kaddy SS, handling was easy even on the curvy roads in rain and traffic. The fit a finish is very good, felt quality throughout. The entertainment units are good quality, specially the dash unit. Have the air mattress, washer/dryer, Air mattress, loft, day/night shades, and passenger side seat with footrest an table. We are getting right 12 mpg after 444 miles. Like the U shaped sitting and the flex table as we used it different t setting and put away for more room. used the fireplace a lot and enjoyed the heat plus the ambiance. A lot of lookers at the campground as it really stands out.
  • We have the Winnebago Forza 34t and love it. Was ordered with all available options and would not have it any other way. Love the washer/dryer, big fridge, and fireplace. Traded in a gas Adventurer and would never go back. Diesel gives you same power at less than half the RPM, so its a lot smoother and quieter to drive.
    Good luck.

    Ron,

I don't have the Solei but as far as performance climbing grades I don't think it will be much better than your Itasca. Yes it has more power but the Diesel is way heavier. You can expect much better gas mileage and a quieter cab as the engine is out back. The air suspension is also a major upgrade from the Ford leaf spring setup.

Seems to have a weak trailer hitch, only 5,000 pounds on a DP is a little light. But it has a decent 650 ft-lb. of torque.

According to a dealer I talked to, that figure is actually 10K, but Winnebago has never corrected it. That was something I forgot to point out previously.

Only way to find out is to look at the receiver. I am in the middle of purchasing a Journey 34B. Although more money I like the floor plan better and the storage area is way better than the Solei. It has the same engine as the Solei 34 but the tranny is a step up in the Journey and that may account for the 10K receiver on the Journey where the Solei is at 5K.

I really like the Journey series. If I were to buy a DP, it would be my first choice. The 40' floorplan is basically the same as the gasser I bought.

  • I looked seriously at this model when I was making my recent purchase. The reasons that I decided against it were:

    1) I simply do not drive enough to own a DP.
    2) I did not like the fact that the bathroom is a "residential style." I wanted a pass-through bath that could be closed off on each end.
    3) If I'm going to have a residential fridge, then I wanted the great, big honking french door fridge.
    4) No real pantry space.
    5) Inadequate handholds at the entrance for an elderly parent.

Things that I did like about it:

    1) The folding dining table.
    2) The C-shaped extendable sofa (also on the 35G gasser model).
    3) Easier access battery compartment (batteries are in a line and easy to access on an individual basis).
    4) The lack of an engine hump. Think again about aforementioned elderly parent.
    5) Available cab-over bed.
    6) The double awning.
