Phoenix Cruiser Price from factory

Phoenix Cruiser shows a "build and price" tab on their website which allows a potential purchaser to enter all the information on any model and find the "list price" and the "factory direct to you" price, which as might be expected is a significant discount.

My question is this: has anyone had experience buying from them and if so what discount, if any, could be expected from the factory price shown as the discounted price. In other words, what is the bottom line on buying a PC price wise??

  • Two years ago, my wife and I made a trip to Elkhart, IN to go through a few RV factories, in hopes of trading our 2000 Safari Class C for a new motorhome. We had planned to look at Nexus, Phoenix Cruiser, and possibly Jayco. As soon as we arrived in Elkhart, we went to the Nexus facility. We toured the facility and discussed what I would like to have in a new motorhome. One very positive feature for me, is the 110 electical outlets having a power source from an inverter, which is what PC offers. The Nexus owners said they could set up a motorhome with that feature. We left there and called the PC factory and the gentleman who was their salesman at the time, was tied up that Fri. PM, and when I asked him if it would be possible to meet with me on Sat. AM, to discuss matters, he said, "If you are ready to buy, then I will meet you, otherwise, we are not open on Saturday." I was up there to shop around, before making any final decisions,so I had to eliminate PC. We went to our motel room and I went over the numbers and on Sat. AM, we went back to the Nexus company and finalized the purchase. I feel I saved app. $20,000 in buying a Nexus Phantom over a PC. I am not knocking PC's-I drove one some yr's. ago at a FMCA rally, and liked it. I just did not get the opportunity to talk to the PC people after driving over 500 miles to Elkhart, IN that weekend. For us, having a lot of storage area is very important, and our 28 foot, no slideout Phantom, has a lot of storage. That just would not have been possible with a PC. Nexus will build whatever you want, at a reasonable price.
  • tatest,

Phoenix USA does manufacture rigs without orders throughout the year but most built during their slowest time of year. Then they'll take some of their inventory to RV shows around the country in the early months of the year. Some great deals are had buying "show" rigs. You can check their new and used inventory HERE. It is interesting to observe that people will buy a Phoenix Cruiser, then a few years later, trade it in for a different model. They love the rig & brand, just changing floorplans....hence the factory has used PC inventory along with other brands.

The company sells factory direct, but does work with a couple independant dealers around the country. At least they did last year. It does seem to change from year to year as is common with independant dealerships. Today they sell Coachman, tomorrow they sell Winnebago. You get the idea.
  • No direct experience buying from PC, when I visited the factory they were still selling only through dealers, and DW wanted something roomier than any of their models at the time.

For manufacturers who sell factory direct only, the "factory to you" price or "sale price" is often the beginning and end of price negotiation. Anything else you likely get might be coming out of the sales person's pocket, and how likely is that? If the factory does not sell through dealers, I don't know that a "suggested list price" makes any sense, except to make you think you are getting a discount by not going through a dealer.

Depending on where they are in their season, and backlog on orders, that factory direct price may change through the model year.

In most cases (again, I don't know about PC) a manufacturer in the "factory-direct" business does not build inventory to sell. This also hold costs down, no financing inventory. You come in, specify what you want, they put a price on it. If you agree to pay, they schedule your build. May be a few weeks, but at the top of the RV factory-direct scale (e.g. Newell) a build could be several months to a year.

I know BornFree as an exception, they build some non-custom inventory, but they also sell through a small number of dealers, treated as regional factory showrooms.

The answer to your question would be on the Phoenix Cruiser forum.

We bought our rig prior to factory-direct, ordered through Don Keller of East Acres RV in Mendon MA, but picked up at the factory. Don still has 2 brand new units, a 2007 2350 and a 2008 2400, both with slideouts and I think both still have full brand new Ford & PC warrantees. I wonder what he'd let them go for.

I have read a fair bit of negative stuff regarding PC.
Let me guess......betsy-tom.....the only disgruntled owner I know. He does a great job at painting a bad picture of a very nice rig and the company behind it. Just ask the rest of us owners. There is a very long story about the Betsy-Tom saga but I really don't want to talk about it any deeper.
  • I have read a fair bit of negative stuff regarding PC......Nexus is also factory direct, as is Lazy Daze...
