Well... we have been in Apache Junction for a month now. And I can confidently say that all the worries about the heat in Phoenix during summer were overblown. Most days its been between 100-105 and that hasn't been a problem for us in the least. Its warm! Absolutely. But we aren't working out in the sun, we don't do road construction, roofing work, nor AC repairs, so... no big deal. Being semi retired and using computers indoors much of the time, its not at all difficult to be in the Phoenix area during summer time.
We are parked facing east toward Superstition Mountain, with the setting sun on our rear closet. The rear closet absorbs a lot of heat and it does keep it from the living area of the coach!
Two of our three AC units have been able to keep our coach in the low to mid 70's without using the third AC unit or foil reflectors on the windows or anything like that.
The only time we have ever run all three AC units is if we allowed the coach to get up to 80 or so and we wanted to chill it down quickly. All three running does chill it down quickly!
We soon became accustomed to having the AC on, using the front two while in the rear and using the rear and mid while in the front. A small floor fan keeps the horizontal flow feeling good. Even 78 to 80 in the coach feels cool, especially when coming in from the outside.
So, those of you who said we would be fine were absolutely RIGHT! :-)
Thanks to everyone who replied. We're loving being here, even in mid summer. We are pretty much accustomed to the heat now and stay out in it only as long as we feel like it and then come inside when we wish to.
Home hunting has been at a feverish pace, focusing on the north Scottsdale area for homes on 1+ acre. We are in escrow now for a home north of Dynamite/Rio Verde Dr. in unincorporated Scottsdale between 136th St. and 144th St. on acreage. If all goes as planned, we will be in the home in a few weeks. Its great to be here and our coach has served us wonderfully while we wait on the house.
Soon, I will need to change my location on the forum from Pacific Northwest to Southwest!
