Please help a tourist - added photos and estimate

I am a tourist which recently got back home after 2 weeks RV rental in which we traveled through Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yosemite. The travel was great. the US is amazingly beautiful. During the travel, I scratched the RV. The damage is shown in the attached photo. I was charged $1100 for the damage. As I have no experience with RVs, I'm struggling with the question whether it is a reasonable or exaggerated amount? (especially as the RV rental company, probably pays much less then a private owner). Any opinion will be appreciated as it may help my case.
  • Would have been nice to see a few additional photos, to make comparisons.
Didn't they offer you any kind of insurance for things like this? That is a very expensive piece of equipment, and while I may not get full coverage on a rental car, I do get the coverage that will cover things like this......call it peace of mind.
  • Well if you enlarge the picture there is a lot more damage in the surrounding area than
just that scratch. There is a section by the molding which almost looks like a portion of the fiberglass is gone, along with a messed up molding. Something odd along the bottom area as well. Your asking us to judge what we see. I see more than a scratch. In that case you got off easy. Either way, didn't you read the terms? I'm sure you signed something before they turned their MH over in trust of you.

I think you got what you agreed to. JMHO.
  • I s'pose you're doing this long distance...is it too late/far for you to get someone else to look at it and estimate the damage?

Our opinions probably won't count for much! My advice is to get your credit card company involved, assuming you put one down as security. If so, do contest that charge right away...the burden should be on the rental outfit to prove the cost.

    Good luck!
  • It's hard for me to see $1100 in damages, but you may be at their mercy.
  • NO, that is not reasonable for a little paint touch up on the bumper. You can bet they will never have that touched up. I can almost tell you who the rental company was. Were they located in southern California?
