Pre Purchase Jitters... Help Please

I fulltime in a '02 Newmar Kountry Star, it now has 94k miles and still going strong. I make sure that all service is done (cummins coach care - Ocala), and all house systems serviced - generally at Newmar service center in Winter Garden, FL. Have I had repairs? sure. New tires? sure. I keep a "repair/service" fund to cover all costs - and replenish as needed. I suggest you do the same. I have found the service techs in Nappennee to be very helpful - have your coach # handy when/if you call them - they can tell you part #'s, etc. Take a deep breath, you are buying a solid coach. Will there be repairs and stuff along the way? you betcha, pretty typical of rv's, but Newmar makes a good product - and if it has been cared for (and it sounds like this one has) - plenty of miles and memories left on it. Go for it.

If the seller has all the records, go over them carefully. Ensure everything was done in a timely manner. IE oil changes regularly, filter changes regularly etc. If he's meticulous with his coach enough to keep records, he should be changing the oil and filters at least once a year. If his records check out, then I wouldn't hesitate to buy the coach. My Dynasty had every record since it was born. At 109,000 miles I only had a couple issues with it and it still ran strong when I traded up to the Exec....Tires will save you about $4k but still check the date codes.....good luck....Dennis

We have a similar 02 DSDP with only 86,000 miles.IMHO at 97,000 miles you should have a about 400,000 or more left. I would look at all roof caulking, check refrigerator for flue and burner problems, check the transmission to make sure it has been serviced and if not take it in to an authorized Allison dealer, take it to Cummins and have them plug in their magic machine to check engine history and any recalls. From my personal experience have the hitch receiver bolts checked for torque. At 50K is priced in the right ball park. You may want new springs for the HWH leveler system.

If my wife liked it we would get it but we have one!!!

2001-2003, <50K miles, <$50K, diesel pusher.

We brought a 6 year old fiver in good shape for less than half of new, we're averaging a 1000.00 a year for maintenance that includses 1575.00 for 4 new tires last month. Big expense is drive train on a MH and 98000 does not seem excessive for a 12 year old DP.

thats kind of high mileage for that price.

buyers remorse often follows prepurchase jitters. You are looking at a 12 year old used vehicle. Expect some significant repairs or upgrades. If its keeping you awake at night fugetabboutit. If your budget can handle a few thousand here or there bite the bullet and go for it. Have a pro check it out for you.
