Price range of coaches and quality

The following two companies have multiple coaches with Tag-axles.

• American has four (4) coaches from the $390 to the $840,000
• Newmar has five (5) coaches from $350 to the $850,000

Both of these companies have mid range coaches that fall around $500,000. So here is my question.

With Entegra, Monaco and Tiffin their top of the line coaches are right around $500,000.

In your opinion is there any benefit to buying a “Top Of The Line Coach” from Entegra, Monaco and Tiffin? Or a “Middle Line Of The Line Coach” from American and Newmar?

It may not be a very good question but I would be curious to your answer.

Thank you,

HJ

J, a Marathon is built 'in' a Prevost chassis as Millennium, Liberty Coach and other converters.

While that may be true in some cases, many higher end/higher dollar coaches are indeed built better. Coaches with a semi-monoque design are more sturdy, quieter, stiffer (less flexing), ride and handle better than those that are primarily bolted or screwed to some cross members welded to a chassis. Most of those higher end rigs are built on bus chassis or chassis that were specifically designed for the coach. My previous coach from one of the popular manufacturers had the side walls screwed to the floor with #8 self drilling sheet metal screws. That is much different than how many of the higher dollar coaches are built.

I will agree that many of the high dollar/higher end rigs we viewed had a bit too much fu fu for our tastes.

  • Well we certainly didn't even fit into your price range with our Fleetwood Expedition. But when we were looking at MH,s we also considered the Discovery. Still below your price range. What I wanted was the " slightly" bigger engine. But it was $30,000 more in cost.

What we would have got for that was window awnings, on demand hot water system, pull out generator, steering wheel audio controls, faux wood grain in dash, shiny porcelain floor tiles. My wife and I both hated the shiny tiles. We decided the extra cash wasn't worth the money. Now if it included a tag axle then it would be more attractive.

So comparing one manufacture to itself we didn't see enough of a change moving up one model to make it worth it. Now if going to a revolution then it might be a whole other story as cabinetry changes and many other things, tag axle , bigger engine, higher class accessories, dish washers, etc.
  • I think that it is a good question. I think a lot of the additional $300,000 is in fancy cr@p that makes their insides look like a French pleasure palace.
