Propane detector

I have a 06 National Sea Breeze and my propane detector will go off one beep about 2 times every day I would think if it was smelling propane it would keep beeping Do these go bad it is hard wired and we never smell propane! Will they go off if they smell sewer gas?
  • Even though hard wired I believe there is a backup battery ( in case of power failure or non-hookup). sounds like that battery has run its course. should be renewed every 6 months!
  • I had the same trouble with mine when I was dry camping down in Quartszite, AZ. in 2010. My detector was 7 years old so I replaced it myself. I took two screws off the detector pulled it out from the wall took off the wire caps, unraveled the wires put the new wires from the detector onto the hard wires put the wire caps back on tested the new alarm and I was done! The new detector was around $59.00 and I haven't had a beep since. Good Luck, Rooster

It's not technically an LP detector. It's a flammable airborn gas detector. Gasoline fumes, perfume, hair spray - anything flammable can set it off. That said, if it's a few years old, they go bad. Worth a few bucks to install a new one.

That sounds like a low battery alarm not a propane gas detections.

Yes they go bad. They actually have a replace by DATE stamped on them which I think is around 5 years or am I thinking about carbon monoxide detectors?

I worry more about the carbon monoxide detectors and usually have two of those is use at all times.

others may have more info for you here...

  • Life expectancy is usually about 7 years. Some will have the date of replacement stamped on the unit, some not. If yours is original to the unit, it is about due for replacement. Your manual will probably tell you that intermittent beeps are notification to replace.
